ok refurbing my alloys. sprayed inside of alloys yesturday and one coat of primer on face side.
now the middle of the wheels are fine good coverage, however the rim and outside edge(which are seen) seem to spray over but then disperse like theres wax on them. i;'ve cleaned sanded them re primered only for same to happen. now i sanded, meth'd and sprayed same happened. now wonder wheeled and sprayed same happened.
i'm in a cold garage could the cold be anything to do with this? pretty sure its not the filler as i used the filler in the middle parts as well and thats covered fine. really running out of options and primer.
anyone shed some light on situation.

Same thing happened on my old wheels.

There is some sort of oil on them so you will need to de-grease them.
  3. #3
really. i thought meths and all the other stuff i wacked on them would shift it.
  4. #4
Well in the end de-greasing them only worked on some areas and had to sand down to bare metal on of other places where the paint was still reacting.
  5. #5
If you've got any lighter fluid to hand, give them a rub over with that, it's a really good de-greasing agent.
  6. #6
    There is silicone on there
when spraying with a gun you can get drops to go in paint when you mix it up.
Cleanimg back to bare metal will work

halfords sell a surface cleaner in aerosol form that removes all silicone and grease etc, its awesome and like £5
  8. #8
i'm back to bear metal on the rims already as the original paint was pretty pap. gonna try that light fluid see if that works. cos i used heavy de greaser and still re acted. starting to wish i hadn;t started this now
  9. #9
i used baby wipes to clean mine after i had rubbed them down
  10. #10
if all else fails try paint stripper then wash it off and dry! works well! so long as you get it all off afterward
  11. #11
lighter fluid didn't work. baby wipes are next up
  12. #12
    baby wipes didn;t work either
  13. #13
degreaser etc etc is not like the product i told you about, it has to be something that contains no silicone else your wasting your time
  14. #14

    thats what its doing
  15. #15
yes and thats because the surface still is contaminated mate. 90% of a paintjob is preperation

well the surface cleaner stuff did bugger all, but the above worked a treat, taken a hell of a long time to do but worked. so hopefully nearly ready for final colour soon.
