Performance setup?..

   Hi guys,
   
   Thought I'd start a thread in here to get some opinions.
   
   I've got my Newman PH3's coming in a couple of days and will be having them installed at the same time as having my cambelt done.
   
   My current setup is K&N panel filter and custom (Longlife-from my work) catback system, no middle box, to smallish backbox.
   
   My plans are to get a different exhaust system (with the hope of better power increases than my current one) and maybe an induction kit of some sort to compliment?
   
   Then, once the Predator is released, I'll be getting that too.
   When should I be doing this remap? After all the modifications to tie them all in together?
   
   Just a few questions for the people who know about engines if you dont mind?
   
   

   • Whats the best exhaust setup to run? decat? centre box? Any links?
   • Would it be advised to get some sort of enclosed induction kit, or stick with panel and cold air feed?
   • I'll be after some sort of manifold at some point? Is it worth spending the money and getting a Piper or the like, or go for Raceland?
   • Head skimming. Porting and polishing? Where to go etc?
   • Any other suggestions?

   Al, I'm running a standard engine at and the time of the rolling road it was
   
   Standard filter, raceland manifold, magnex centre and magnex back... catted.
   
   
   
   ignore the hp figure and concentrate on the wheel figure... it's around 10hp above a standard setup. Mine has now been decatted and has a panel filter on and it does move a bit more than before so it could be nearer 109-112 hp at the wheels now I imagine. As for buggering around with the engine head and stuff... skimming... be very careful, the cams will already push the valves pretty close to the piston... increasing the compression ratio though, will help get more from the cams, so if you're really wanting to go for it some hi comp pistons would to be nice... although you'll have to run the car exclusively on 99RON fuel to minimise the chance of knock or preignition.

   Headwork will really compliment cams well
   
   Try QEP or Highflowheads
   
   Could try the new saxsport exhaust and a Simota induction kit? Would be a good setup
   
   From £405, hiflow will do the following to your 16v head:
   
   Head is crack tested prior to modification
   Cylinder head is skimmed to optimise the compression ratio
   Inlet and exhaust valves are re-lapped to their corresponding valve seats
   Inlet / exhaust ports are fully ported to optimise gas speed and port velocity
   The addition of anti-reversal ratchet on the inlet ports
   The addition of high flow, three angle valve seats
   Larger inlet valves
   New valve stem oil seals
   New cam seals
   Heads are fully assembled to the valve springs

   I would say a supersprint manifold and cat back without silencer. I like the 2" exit, keeps the subtle look. Either stick with the panel filter or an enclosed induction kit. Ive heard the K&N Gen2 kits are good for the 16v.

   have a look at the saxsport exhaust, its a pugsport with a redesigned tailpipe. or maybe a BTB if you can pick one up. i'd get all your mods then get it mapped

    On average they gain you 5bhp
    
    Add a manifold, decat and good induction kit its probably in between 10 - 15bhp

    Im not running any other mods at the moment.
    
    I have video's but my laptop doesnt have sound so will have to load them onto the other half's laptop when I get a chance.
