problems getting power down, help.

  1. #1
i am struggling to get the power down, i keep getting wheel spin right upto third gear especially when its wet.

i have decent tyres on (pirelis on front) but im still having any joy or getting any grip.

does anyone have any other ideas what i could do to improve this?

    thanks

control the throttle rather than flooring it

that is controlling it, 396nm of torque at 1.3 bar. its abit tricky especially in the wet.

    any ideas anyone?

its a pedal, not an on/ off switch.
either that or your tyres are complete pisch, im sure pirelli make sucky tyres too.

    Whats your car?

as mentioned above, that is driving it steady. it goes nuts at 1500 rpm. even when steady driving in the wet and its very irratating tbh

    constructive comments only please

its a 6 speed long ratio box, i cant see an lsd stopping both the front wheels spinning tbh but i could be wrong.

would a boost controller limit the boost in lower gears possibly?

FWD yes, jap crap no im afraid

would better tyres be a start?
  16. #16
Of course, but the roads are going to be greasy for 90% of the time now. Untill we get our shitty excuse for a summer back
  17. #17
lsd wont stop both wheels spinning, only transfers power to the wheel that isnt spinning and if they are both spinning then er...
    boost controller would def help.
is it a devils fuel car?
  18. #18
r888 or yoko equivalent, some road legal semi slicks would be good (in the dry).
  19. #19
I wouldnt have semi slicks on in winter
  20. #20
Vag?? mate had the same problem in his proton cross evo, just slippy greasy roads crossed with boost dont realy work lol buy a cheap car and run that over winter

    what tyres would you recommend?

and if so do they make them in 225, 40 18s? (40 profile is a must due to space between the top of the tyre and the mount the bottom of the front spring sits on)
  23. #23
is it spinning in the absolute bone dry?
or is it a bit greasy?
    p.s.

genuinely, don't floor it, a mclaren f1 is manageable in the wet if you tickle the accelerator.

What condition are your tyres in? they could be Pirelli P Zero's but if they're got 2mm of tread left they're going to be crap in the wet innit. Get Michelin Pilots.

abit and yes, def when its greasy.

    thank you for the link.

although i can get massively discounted tyres from a frinds buisness (lk performance)

i would like to know which ones would be best, cheers

yes, its going to make a difference, especially with the power quoted.
is your car gash, thats why its a secret?

I change mine at around 3 mm, especially what with the worst of the weather for the year fast approaching man. It's the laws of physics at the end of the day, there's is only so much adhesion you're going to get on a greasy road regardless of whether you have a a 8 litre Veyron on P Zero's or a 1.0 saxo on Ninjibongo's... the best tyres available are not going to get you to get the power down significantly better when it's the road that's the problem man.

apart from maybe sandpapering the surface to rough them up a bit before racing someone I doubt there is much you can do man - that's what I'm saying, there isn't much you can do - it's more the road rather than the car.

maybe increase weight on the front if it's FWD and/or decrease weight on the rear.

if you're flooring it at 20mph in 2nd, try using 3rd at 20mph and flooring it.

i dont really do racing tbh, its my daily. 3rd at 20 is fine but thats just below when it hits boost and spins off again.

    thanks for your help

is the wheel alinement (sp) correct, mine is way out so can spin in 5th if its wet.

tire preshure also plays a big part in traction, under and over inflated.

it's cool... I just think we're going to go round in circles again but I'll say it anyway... can you just lot pull off the accelerator a touch when the turbo kicks in?

Get some rubber which is decent in the wet, i.e Michelin Pilots, Eagle F1s.
