The most popular is obv a S conversion, if you have deep enough pockets and plenty of time you could make anything fit! Within reason!!

am really wanting to got fast than a vts was thinking more of a 2.0 out of a 306 ?????
  5. #5
a 2.0 out of a 306 would be a pain to fit (very tight) but yes it would fit. I also think that with the lump being so heavy it would destroy the cars good handling.

I will await other peoples opinions though.

woulid be like the corsa redtop conversion, fast in a straight line but slow around the twisties

    would*

get a VTS lump and mod that, fast enough for most people but still drivable and handles well!

    mi16 maybe

Does it need to be a French engine? Although I have no intention of doing it, I was thinking the other day about sticking an engine from a reliable car into the Saxo. Maybe an MX-5 1.8i engine or the like. Would be a hell of a lot more reliable.

  18. #18
Is you seriously want something different, a K series would be a good call

Lad on the Rallye Register has got a rally car with a Honda B series lump in.

i was think maybe the 2.0 8v out of the 306 wound i be to use the vtr loom and box cos tht will be cheaper lol cheers
  21. #21
TU5 J4 (GTi/VTS) engine tbh. Best bet in terms of performance, simplicity to fit and and not screwing up the handling.

A 2.0 8v engine from a 306 XSi is only about 123Bhp anyway, so for the potential extra 3bhp it's not worth it. 1.6 16v VTS lump is the way forward tbh or something like a Honda B16A (B if you can find/afford one) if you've got deep enough pockets.

good luck with putting a tu loom round a different engine
they dont even fit other tus half the tme
and i think the 306 runs a be box which is a semi common swap on saxos so keep that on the motor as an ma will require a lot of work to fit
  23. #23
wat do u think wound be the best am not really wanting a vts in it cos lots of people are doing it thanks
  24. #24
People have told you what they think is best already. The reason that so many people drop a VTS lump in is because it is relatively straight forward to fit, won't destroy the handling and is a good engine for modifying.

The money you'll spend dicking around fitting a 2.0 8v XU engine in your Saxo could buy you a decent VTS lump; probably with breathing mods too.

Just go for a VTS lump dude
  25. #25
ok cheers are the 106 gti the same motors and do u know if i will need to change the loom to put the vts in
  26. #26
Probably try the Peugeot A18 engine aswell

depends on the age of the car for if you need to swap the looms
the 106 also doesnt have the heat exchanger for the oil like the vts does
i have a 16v in my vtr and its relatively straight forward if you have the right loom
  28. #28
mine on a w reg 2000 if thats and help cos i woundnt know were to start with the loom lol
  29. #29
cound you also tell me wat bhp the mark 1 vts are if any one knows cheers
  30. #30
120, it was always 120bhp no matter what you hear mate.

Also, your cars on the crossover so youll need to be extra careful buying the right engine as there were a few changes to the looms and engine management at that time.

    mayonaise ???? lol

Get a loom/engine from a 2000 w reg vts. If your seriously wanting to be quicker than a normal s conversion (big stepup from vtr) then just mod the 16v lump, theres loads that can be done

have a look in front of the battery by the left headlight there will be a round plug
itll either be about amn inch and a half in diameter (early style sp single plug)
or closer to 3 inches (later so 3 plug)

basic rule of thumb is crossovers ran big plug but single plug ecu
i would just lob a 3 plugger in there in that case

it there a way i can still use the same loom because i woundnt know were to start with the loom
  38. #38
i have seen it done but you need to change plugs et so if your not confident with wiring its not the best idea

K series engines are one of the most competitively used engines ever made, remove the HGF problem (which is cheap and simple as fuck) and youve got a very light, very tuneable and very readily available engine.

if my car was a single plug ecu and i got a single plug vts motor wound the loom be to stay in the car then cheer

Metro GTa with a 1.6 16v engine conversion

add a small amount of tuning and you got one incredibly useable car

oh and i would also LOVE to own one of those 1.8 vvc converted metro's!!!

The perfect reason ive been running VVCs for the last three years. 160bhp for pennies because nuggets think theyre made of chocolate.
