Fuel from Charcoal canister :s anyone shed any light

Some of you may no that a few weeks ago i had trouble with my car missing and fuel coming from the drivers arch

The happened about 2 weeks after fitting a larger Fuel pressure regualtor - the time gap made me think it wasnt connected. But i changed it and it ran fine

A few weeks ago i put it back on and tonight its happened again, but as soon as i replaced it with standard it was fine :s

Can anyone tell me how fuel could get to the arch? am i right with it being the charcoal canister? just any info for me?

it's basically a fuel tank breather iirc, routing the fuel vapours back into the inlet after going through charcol.

The ECU i think controls the opening and closing of this valve

Ok cheers, is it in anyway connected or linked to the fpr? how did fuel get into it?
  4. #4
it's linked to your fuel tank and the fpr under the rear bench - as it's the breather for it

is there any realease in it to cause fuel to come through the arch or might i have split a pipe?

Could have a split pipe - how do you know there's fuel in the arch? Can you smell it?

the pipe runs from the top of the tank along the driverside sill and upto the canister. It could be split at the join on the canister

basically the engine started to stutter and then when i got out it was litterally pouring fuel out of the arch nearest the door - pouring :s swapped the fpr over and it was fine :s

will take the wing off tomoz and inspect

what sort of fpr was it? a replacement under the bench? or a cut into the fuel line up front job?
  10. #10
under the bench 4.0 bar, standard was a 3.5bar

does anyone know if i can access it without taking the entire arch off?

    ive just found this info:

The tank has to have the space for the vapors to collect so that they can then be vented to the charcoal canister. A purge valve is used to control the vapor flow into the engine. The purge valve is operated by engine vacuum. One common problem with this system is that the purge valve goes bad and engine vacuum draws fuel directly into the intake system. This enriches the fuel mixture and will foul the spark plugs. Most charcoal canisters have a filter that should be replaced periodically. This system should be checked when fuel mileage drops.

so looks like the purge valve has gone bad :s

Hmmm bet mines never been cleaned can it be removed then, for cleaning obv??
  14. #14
how is the fuel pressure regulator linked to the charcoal canister?
  15. #15
    via a tube
  16. #16
is it a direct link or are there other pipes connected to that pipe?
  17. #17
direct link iirc - poke your head under the rear bench and have a look.

I'll see what I can find on the Citroen parts diag.
