double din unit, any ideas?

    Hi people,

This is my first post of this forum. I'm from Holland and just got myself a '96 saxo vts. Great wee car but the wee part is causing a problem. I have a Kenwood double din head unit which definitely has to go in. Has anyone ever tried this before? What do you reckon the best place would be? Had a wee look at the center console and there isn't much empty space behind it. Seen some pics of saxos where the blower in de center console was taken out for other purposes but if possible I'd like to keep it there. Gonna give it a go with some fiberglass to reshape the console. If anyone has some tips that would be much appreciated

best tip... Go get another center console from a scrap yard and practice on that.. dont muck the one up in your car

ok, some progress here, decided to take out the center console, cut out some bits so the unit would fit. Plastic housing for the vent in the console has been modified, a lot narrower now, haven't tested it yet but I'm sure some air will come out. Waiting for my fiberglass to arrive to patch it up and get it ready for paint. In the meantime gonna look at maybe fitting it a bit deeper so it alligns with the rest of the console but might mean taking out too much of the console surroundings, don't want it to fall apart

um.........on the backseat at the moment

Gonna stick the buttons for the hazard light and the de-mister in the space for the ashtray, plenty of space there but I'm waiting for fiberglass
