ABS Light Wont Go....

  1. #1
    Hey peoples,

Got a problem with the VTS. Have my MOT in January, but my ABS light wont go off.

Its now been on for around 3 months without going off once whilst the car is on and running

How can I go about rectifying this? A new sensor? I've no idea where to start. Need the car for work so if it fails its MOT im a bit stuck.

    ANY help appreciated. Or mechanics

Likely be a faulty sensor or clogged up sensor wheel (like a cog on end of driveshafts). You can check sensors with a tester, look for resistance measuredin OHMS, symbol is like an upturned horse shoe. Not sure of correct reading to expect but its likely one of them will be open circuit ie infinite resistance which is often displayed on the meter as "OL". Finding the sensor at fault is the time consuming bit here. But as i said make sur ethe sensor wheels are clean because if tyhey are gunked up the sensor will not be "seeing" the wheel turning.

Thanks for the info fella. Where are the sensors though? Im not that advanced in mechanics!! haha

They look at the drive shafts and rear discs, the sensor wheel looks like a cog (imagine a circular castle turret design). The sensor is looking at it, it will be black plastic and hace a wire attached. Sorry not got abs on mine so my description sucks kinda!

remove plug from back of ABS Unit, test pins for resistance of 1100 Ohms if it is 0 you will prob need a new sensor. there is a pic on here somewhere or 106 OC of the location of the pins and the relating Wheel.

get some one to plug a codeck reader in and that might help failin that go to a garage they will plug it into a proper diognostics machine that well be able to pick up the falt

TOP bit of advice that.... find out which sensor is faulty via a multimeter set to ohms, which is this "Ώ" setting on the meter.
A working sensor should be approximately 1200ohms, a faulty sensor will display "OC" or "open circuit" and will need replaced by a new sensor.
Be aware that sensors are NOT interchangeable between sides.. i.e.- if you have a faulty passenger side sensor, you can't replace it with a spare drivers side sensor!!!

As it happens, I have a spare passenger ABS sensor (proven working) if required.... PM me...
