gti grinding and knocking :(

    Hi all,

I'm really struggling to find the source of two really annoying problems on my car. Its annoying because both make the car feel awful, despite the fact that it runs quite nicely.

Firstly, on certain cambers I can feel a grinding noise under my feet. It feels like its coming from the drivers side and sounds like something is rotating/grinding. I've changed the drivers side wheel bearing, but this didn't solve the problem. It also doesn't click whilst turning, I'm suspecting the o/s driveshaft? What do you think?

Second, I recently changed ARB drop links which solved quite a bad knocking up front for about a month or so. Now following giving the car a brisk drive on some b roads last week I there is a knocking that feels like its coming from my front drivers side strut. I've checked the brass nuts on both sides (which are tight on both). Does this sound like the strut bearing or top mounts?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

I've been hunting around on here for a while. I'm capable enough with some things mechanically. I changed my cambelt back in May. Never seem to struggle with engine or brake related stuff. But I always find diagnosing suspension issues really hard.

sounds like ball joints i can suply you with a brand new pair of wishbones to tighten the front up and clear the knocking

I've recent,y had the same problem after I fitted a set of GTi6 brakes and discs... turned out to be one of the "wear sensor" connections was catching when turning!!!

Good chance it's not this on your car, but goes to show it can be the most inconspicuous thing!! Keep looking
