Arb plate weld

  1. #1
Well, went to higher the rear of the car before as its sitting way, way too low and with winter coming up it needs sorting. Okay, so I've got the tools to remove the torx bolts and i've refurbed my own beam before so i'd say I have a decent idea on what I was doing...

Anyway, some douche has welded the drivers arb plate to the arm for some weird reason. They've also spot welded the 13mm bolt that stops the end plate from turning onto the arb plate itself. Pain in the arse as I was planning to have it done today.

What would be the plan of action for me to get these welds off? I don't have an angle grinder but may have to go get one?

    Cheers

How do I make sure it comes off that way though... I think your onto something here haha. I've taken my arb off before on previous cars but the arb plate has always popped off on the passengers side and i've removed it via the drivers.

well unless it's got the hole like drivers side it's a pain to do
basically involves levering the plate off with a screwdriver ect then pulling the arb out of the other plate with a slide hammer

Hmmm i've just remembered it won't work anyway as I need to turn the drivers arb plate around to gain access to one of the torx bolts. Looks like i'll have to grind the welds off and do it that way. Think i'll leave it another week now

try cutting the weld with a hacksaw if you don't have a grinder?

Agree, I don't know why anyone would do that. Looks to me as if the arm has a small crack in it close to where the arb plate is and they've welded the arb plate, to the crack and then to the arm. So its all one solid unit. I've got a spare arm in my garage but i'll have to get new bearings for it.

Sounds a bit dodgy! They welded it all the way around?

Just the pointed bit by the 13mm bolt and the top of the plate. I'll have to see what I can do.
