Stripping alloys.

Whats the best way to get paint off alloys? at the moment im using a little black&decker mouse to do it. will this damage the alloy if i use it too enthusiasticly?

    (lol spell check that)

    ok claki

i used to run a powder coating company we used to refurb alloys all the time !

we had a sand blaster so i guess if you want to do them yourself your not likely to have one of these!!!!!!
if you put thinners on the wheel it will work but it will stink your garage out plus it may take a day or so, you will have to keep your black and decker on the wheel a while to melt the alloy!
to be honest putting heat into the wheel is not good imo

well theres not really any heat involved. its a little sander and seems to be doing an ok job so far.

oh sander i was confused by the mouse! lol
be ok if your not pressing to hard mate what you painting the wheel with?
just want to be carefull as when you paint it if you see scratches after you painted it would look bad ! you can rub it down by hand with some glass paper1 i would use a primer aswell it will def help the paint to stay on the wheel mate

yea...im not pressing too hard the paper im using is leaving a near perfect surface for primer. i think i will need a denser grit to finish it off not sure what to paint it with i know what ever it is, it will be gloss white.

we would have used an acid etch primer this would eat into the wheel and leave a yellow green colour the paint then sticks to that like s**t to a blanket mate, i dont think you will get that in a can!

nitromors is good for the job like, put it on, leave it a bit, rub it off, top job

as said above nitromors is pretty much the best you will get for stripping the paint off.... i bought some wire wheels for my drill that helped get the paint off 10 times quicker i was stripping it right back to alloy to have them polished up like mirrors they came out amazing....

i used a orbital sander with not to harsh paper on slow speed did the job then ran rounbd the bits i couldn;t get to with hand n sand paper. 3/4 of mine was back to bare metal. only trouble i had was getting the primer to stick to the rims. FINE COATS are your friend
