Ticking noise from front offside wheel

  1. #1
My 12 year old saxo has a ticking noise coming from the front wheel that worsens when turning right, and disappears when turning left.

Nothing to do with the power steering cos i dont have it.

I think it may be the rubber housing over the bit of axle (a UJ?) near the inside of the wheel rubbing, probably on the brake shoe, cos when i feel around i get black stuff on my hands

    also, a few miscellaneous problems:
whining from under the engine when it idles longtimes; this the water pump?
Oil leak on front of engine block; any way to tell which valve/gasket is dead? im lead to believe its likely to be the cylinder head but not sure
Clutch bite very high; moving off then lifting off the clutch, the pedal only travels 2 cm further up. may be due to wheelspin will try adjusting cable but will i need a new clutch, or should i wait until it doesnt work at all/screams/burns?

    All help appreciated

    driveshaft or poss bearing

what car is it? oil leak is prob rocker gasket imo, an the clutch pedal does come quite high

doubt it is your headgasket mate, probably your rocker cover.. get a pic up.
noise from front wheel is probably a wheel bearing/driveshaft as above..driveshaft would more likely give a clunking too particularly at low speed lock to lock etc

check the antirattle springs on your calliper , mine has just came off for no aparent reason and it makes a ticking sound , worth a try

its a 1997 1.1i. check the brake calipers?

    Pic:

also more photos in album. let me know if you cant see it ill adjust facebook settings.

this pic was taken just after power washing the engine and as such is clean, no oil leak visible. before washing pretty much all of this area except bright silver alternator and exhaust manifold were covered in dirty oil, even alternator had spots and its only months old. this area is just below rocker cover, i guess it could be rocker gasket.
    thanks

id check the rocker cover gasket mate , ,
just take off the cover and have a check ,
Or go out for a hard drive and see if it starts to leak as the surfaces are clean you can see wher is is coming from .
