big problem!

    i got a big problem with my vtr so big that it will not even start now!

    when i try to start the car sometimes it turns over for a couple of seconds before starting other times it starts straight away and sometimes you get a little smell of petrol? but always seemed to run fine an never saw any leaks on the floor so thought nothing of it

    today after it cut out i was turning it over and it was firing then cutting straight out i was doing it a few times and it started and was running and i got about a mile or so and it cut out again, done the same sat turning it over then decided to get my uncle to tow me home as i wasnt far from home

    i got out to put the towing eye in and noticed a rainbow puddle on the floor which im guessing is petrol? its raining also so when i lift the bonnet everything jus gets wet but i did notice there is a very tiny little puddle sitting n the inlet under the injectors so could it be the injectors playing around/leaking or something?

    any information would be very much appriciated!

    also forgot to mention you do not always hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on, only sometimes

    sounds like a fuel leak - id not try and start the engine until you've sorted it - could be fire time.

    has to be from the inlet area mate as that was where the puddle was coming from (engine end of car)

    i have a complete inlet from another silvertop engine i might try swapping the inlets over what do you guys think?

    yea mine started leaking for some reason before. it ran fine but could smell it. didnt you try starting the car with the bonnet up and have a look to se where the puddle is coming from? or get a mate to turn it over quick whils your looking.

    i just took mine out cleand them up and the fuel rail n put it back in and it was fine..

    couldnt see anythin mate will have another look

    was it just your injectors that were leaking? do they just pull out?

    yea my injectors. has a rubber on both ends and just pops in and out

    id get a new set of o rings - they swell up with a/f mixture, so for the sake of a few £££ would be good to replace them

    im gonna just swap over the inlet and injectors off the other engine i have as i know that one is sound

    i changed the inlet over today along with injectors + injector rail

    when i took the injector rail off it was filled with petrol loads come pouring out so im guessing my car may have been flooded?

    anyway changed it all over still and going to try it in a minute as ive got the battery on charge

    still why would the car have cut out? i mean if it just cut out and then flooded with petrol surely it wasnt firing?

    have been out to try the car turning over but still not starting

    pulled the pipe off the fuel rail and it was pressured up so obviously its just not firing?

    does anyone know what it may be? i remember i did go through quiet a big puddle a while before it started playing up, maybe something got wet?

    if anyone has any ideas will be a huge help!

    when mine did this i changed everything ended up being the fuel pump changed that and fired straight up

    but like i said mate there is fuel at the injection rail as when i pull the pipe off some comes out

    have just been out to try the car and you can not even hear it prime anymore, do you think it may be the fuel pump or fuel injection relay? as like i said it seems to get petrol up to the pipe but may only be whats left in the system?

    tried that mate

    i been out for a little drive in it and it just seems to go for a few minutes then cut out

    the fuel pump does prime from time to time then starts and you drive it for abit then it cuts out

    do you think maybe fuel filter is blocked causing petrol starvation?

    yeh might be - new fuel filter is cheap to do

    will change filter tomorrow if the problem still occurs i will try the fuel pump

    my bettings at the moment are on the fuel pump

    have change the filter today and people say about letting the pump prime a fewtimes before you start it but you cannot hear my pump prime, shall i just turn the car over and see if it starts? also cannot try today becaus the battery has gone flat from turning it over so much lol

    anyone know if a 1.6 fuel pump from a 206 running he same engine will fit my car?

    is fine to try and turn it over - it wont start otherwise

    i know it wont start otherwise but i mean in the how to guide on here it says turn the ignition on and off a few imes before trying to start it so it gets fuel in the lines and filter

    also cannot try it till tomorrow as the battery has gone flat from turningi over yeserday lol

    also thining maybe fuel is too low? my gauge reads just above the dot where the petrol light normal comes on at

    maybe the sender is fecked and its actally more less empty?

    UPDATEEE

    have been out to try starting the saxo again this morning put the battery on put the key onto 2nd click and did not hear the fuel pump prime at all... turned it over to try start it a couple times and no luck... when you turn it back to the 2nd click after turning over you do hear it prime so its like 3rd click(turn over) let it go back to 2nd click and you kinda hear it prime

    also as said petrol light is on and its at the top of the little block and the front of the car is also facing down hill

    do you think maybe it isnt picking up the petrol? or fuel pump naffed?

    kinda sorted the problem now

    kept engaging the starter motor then stopping to make it prime the pump i thought maybe the filter was empty still or something kept doing this for a while then it started up

    i thought maybe gauge is playing around so put £12 of fuel in first before i done it

    started in the end so now is running but i have an injector leaking so goin to take them off and put new O rings on them later

    sometimes starts straight away sometimes doesnt so i dont know what may be wrong with it still lol but does always start in the end after turning over for a couple of seconds

    maybe because the injector is leaking?

    would that cause it then? its only because i changed the injector rail when it wouldnt start

    also isnt leaking a lot only a tiny bit?
