Important! : Urgent. 106 XS Gearbox On VTS

My mate who works at a scrappy has a Phase 2 106 1.6 8v xs gearbox, as my gear box has lost some gears im in desperate need of one.

Am i right in thinking the 106 1.6 Box is the same as the VTR?????

the code on the box would confirm it.

The 1.6 8v XSI gearbox is the same as an S2 - not 100% what the 106 1.6 8V XS box it though.

Found this on Ralllye register.

The Rallye is fitted with a MA 5-speed gearbox, the same as the one used in the 1.6 XSi. It shares the same gear ratio's as the S1 Rallye gearbox but different crown and pinion wheels give the S2 a final drive ratio of 4.06. The gearing specification allows the Rallye to reach 62mph in 2nd gear and 116mph in 4th when standard size wheels and tyres are fitted.

its the same final drive im using and its a s2 rallye final drive.

S2 XS box = Mk1 VTR box. IE; Piss poor.

S2 XS is not to be confused with the S1 XSi.

i got confused, its the s1 1.6xs that uses the s2 rallye final drive?? or am i talking out my arse?

S1 1.6 XSi box is good. And yes, uses the Rallye FD I believe.
S2 1.6 XS box (aka VTR box) is bad. Mmkay.

there is no s1 1.6xs

there is the;
s1 xs 1.4
s1 rallye 1.3
s1 xsi 1.4
s1 xsi 1.6
s2 xsi 1.6 (very very rare in this country)
s2 xs 1.6
s2 rallye 1.6
s2 GTI 1.6

there are also other lower spec cars, the ideal gearbox imo would be s1 rallye with the s1xsi final drive

the s2 xs box is the same as the s1 blactop vtr as far as i know.

There is no S2 XSi, as that's what the S2 XS is, IE, the 'i' stands for injection, which the XS already is.

The XS was made to use up the last of the S1 XSi parts, and so is a mixture of them, VTR, and 1.1 parts.

Oh, and there was 1,280 S2 XS's sold between 96 and 98.

they do exsist s2 xsi 1.6 very rare but i have seen one forsale recently

I stand corrected. Although I can't say i've ever heard of an S2 XSi until now, and never thought they'd exist as per reasons in my last post.
