Rite just bought a supersprint race centre for my mk2 vtr and now looking for a backbox, i didnt want the full supersprint system because the tail pipe is to small imo! so wot does everyone rekon, i was looking at the piper 3" or ashley comp 3" but ive heard these ashley comps are very loud. Or wot about a 4" in either of the two, any other backboxs people can recomend?
Wot back box guys?

#1
-
#2irrc the ashley tbh bud
-
#3Supersprint magnum, 100 mm exhaust but not to loud
-
#6Magnex ftw
-
#7wot the hell does irrc mean?
-
#8if i remember correctly
-
#9Piper 3" outwardly rolled...... pure win.
-
#10yeh the pipers are nice but the ashley comps are gd value for money half the price of most back boxes! any1 got one?
-
#11I've got a 3" Sportex, and im pleased with it. It's fairly loud but its fit great and is of similar value to the ashley. People tend to say the ashley doesn't fit too well and the hangers have to be adjusted in order for it to sit properly although i imagine it isn't difficult to adjust anyway.
-
#12rite looks like im gena go for either the piper 3" / 4" / 4" slash or duno lol
-
#13s/s custom job,choose what u want?
-
#14You need an adaptor to fit the ashley to the supersprint...thats what i've got. It sticks out to far cause of the adaptor so you have to cut part of it of and adjust the hangers for it to fit right.
-
#17o right, aw cant be arsed with that i think il just get a piper than spend abit more money but i think it will be worth it! rite 3" or 4" slash wot every one think?
-
#18i got a 3" sportex one and it fited in around 20mins after braking the clamp of. its got a nice sound to it to. one prob is it hangs a little low but with new performance mounts brings it back up and sits nicly bud.
-
#19hmmmmmmmmm do these sportexs fit the supersprint race section with 50mm bore size?
-
#21I presume they do as standard sizes are usually used with these exhausts. Or, get a sportex back box with the sportex race section. Does exactly the same job as the supersprint race section but it will be cheaper when bought with the sportex backbox and is guaranteed to fit.

#223" outward rolled piper with supersprint centre section....

#26Do the backboxes make much difference in actual performance?
I just thought it was everything else that did that..
And a guy said Ashley Exhausts? Apparently they are a pain in the ass because they don't fit properly.
Do what RhysVTS said, your best option for sure.
-
#27i would stay away from the custom evhausts if i were you, very poor quaity. ive never seen a good one yet tbh.
you would be far better advice going for a well known decent make. magnex, piper, SS, miltek, scorpion etcc.
i had a nagnex on my vts, sounded awesone with the middle silencer removed -
#28which exhaust to get to have abit of rasp? thanks
-
#29For rasp i've heard sportex is good and for a quieter one magnex is best.
Hear-say though, I have standard until my birthday in 3 weeks then I will start my progress thread

#30Don't get a sportex backbox for a mk2 VTR!
Unless you have an aftermarket mani etc.
I've heard peco are raspy.....1 user thanked this post: -
#31i live really close to larkspeed was thinking about either a peco or there magnex which size tho? what about janspeed?
-
#32I completely forgot about peco, just had a look at them they have got a wide range of tail pipes! il have a think.
Another thing guys, i have a vtr with a supersprint race section but wot fittment shud i get the exhaust for now a vtr or vts because the supersprint has a 50mm bore size like the vts, anyone know? -
#34Ashley 3", when i first fitted one on my car it was dodgy as hell, but all i had to do was move the brackets around(they are seperate to the backbox) and it fitted fine.
Sound good aswell -
#35I have the 3" Sportex on my VTR and i love it, good price, had it 2 years and its in perfect condition, and sounds nice
-
#36Yes, sound wise. I have the 3" Sportex Back box, and there is hardly any noise, compared to the same system on a smaller engined saxo, I'm assuming it's the CAT being in the mani that deafens the sound.
-
#37I've just taken my sportex as its for sale... It was as loud. Dunno what your doing liam...
-
#38My mates got a 3" sportex and sounds mint on a 98bhp engine.
-
#39Magnex fitted well ftw! but then again i am biased lol
Piper 3", or the race system types look mint aswel -
#40My 3" Sportex is more than loud enough when you accelerate and its a deap rumble on idle
-
#41Some say it's loud, some don't.Quote:I've just taken my sportex as its for sale... It was as loud. Dunno what your doing liam...

Not to my taste, going for a dual SS Peco backbox
Is yours the early mk2?(90bhp) -
#42Race centre yeah ? My mate got pulled last sat and it read 97 db legal is 90, Thats with the cat still in!
-
#43its all to your own taste realy as there are so many diffrent makes out ther just as good as each other my 3" sportex back box got very nice sound nd lookn good to and never had any problems with the coppers and they hate us up here.
