Black Bump Strips

  1. #1
Hi All, Waiting for a nice day to do this....
looking at painting all my bump strips black,
    1. Whats the best process for doing so?
    2. how do you get the side strips off?
    3. Is it best jacking it all up etc then taking everything off?

    Thanks Guys

You could take the bumper etc.. off but it would be easier to leave everything on and just mask it up properly.

Then its just a case sanding all the plastic down using a fairly coarse paper and then a much smoother grade.

Then spray approx. 3 coats of plastic primer, leaving about half hour between coats.

Once the primer is fully dry give it a light sand then spray 3/4 coats of the chosen black. Finally once this is dry spray on 3 coats of laquer.

You think its easier to leave the bumpers on then ??
Hows best to do the sides ?? - leave them on?

Well it depends if you've got the time and patience to take everything off. But i think you can do just as good a job by leaving them on if the conditions are right.

Just make sure you take your time and mask everything off properly, and sand down all the strips so they are perfectly smooth for the best finish.

so " wet 'n' dry " would be the best method ??

Yeah use wet and dry paper. I wouldnt use it wet though like you would refurbing alloys.

Coarse first, then fine to get it really smooth. Then just wipe them down with a slightly damp cloth to get rid of the dust, then when there dry start spraying.
