Compbrrake Quickshift - Check thread for my idea!

  1. #1
For everyone that owns a Compbrake quickshift,

Most of you, almost all of you would of had the problem over time were it slips down, or up due to the collars being really stupid design and the way they are created.

    So i have a solution

    I was thinking today,

Easy way to stop it from slipping down? or up

Basically the collars are created for the grubs to screw onto the gearstick to grip it.

But over time they do work loose and it goes all floppy and unsafe.

    So i thought about this.

    Now, This was the idea

    Check the picture -

    Black - Grub holes

    Red Circle = Gearstick

    Brown / gold - Collar

Blue line - Threaded rod same thickness as grub screws

    Right

Now instead of having just the grubs hold it, I thought about actually drilling a hole through the gearstick so you can place a rod through it.

Now before people start going ' It would make it weaker' Well its not a gaping hole, so no, it wont. Besides the rod is going to be there anyway.

    So basically

You have a / find a small bar / rod that you then / tap / die a thead into both ends around about 2-3mm into it, if not all of it 'will come to that in a sec'

And then thread it trough and place some loctite to hold it in place.

    Now,

I am going to BNQ to search for a bolt, to see if they make them that small to thread straight through, and just hack saw the end off, and hacksaw a + into one of the ends so i have something to use to screw it in with.

What you guys / girls think?

principles good but notm sure how easy itd be to put into practice. have you ever tried drilling a hole through a small round bar?

Vice FTW - Use a proper tiny drill bit to create a entrance hole, then bigger bit same size as thread to drill the rest out

vice..., so completely removing the gear stick?
also a little drill is gonna dance all over that diameter before it gets a bite. best to put a flat on it first with a file.

just seems a lot of work compared to just checking the grub screws are tight once a month

Well i get to a point where i do them up so much they then make a 'cracking' sound, so i know there done up tight. But they come loose ALL the time, like i done it today, was loose by the evening

have got a quickshift on my corsa, not sure what kind it is (could check the 'for sale' ad i guess ) but dont know much about them. weird how it comes loose so soon regularly though

I custom made a gear stick for mine.

I cut the a 100m section of the gear stick out (where the collars sit)

I then re-made the collars but made them so that so that instead of just sliding on they screwed on (tapd m10 or 12 cant remember.)

The collars then had one tapd hole in the side fr a grub screw so that it would lock it all in position.

Worked really well to be honest, much better that it did.

Still wasnt keen on the overall look of the system though so sold it.
