Green stuff pads.

  1. #1
    Hi guys,
I was just wondering what the difference in performance is between green stuff pads and standard OM pads. And also difference in performance between normal, grooved and drilled disks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

I found greenstuff to br truely awful!
  3. #3
    What would you recommend?

You want an honest opinion on greenstuff?
    They are utter shite!
My set spent more time as paperweights than they did on the car!
Caused lots of vibration due to deposits left on the disk and made a hell of a mess

pagid rs4 2 blue are the best pad available for fast road and some track use

ferodo ds 2220 i think is the number of my 2nd choice pads
    avoid drilled disks!

What's the spec of your car? You just drive it on the road?

Its not a saxo... It's a Peugeot 307 XSI 2.0l 16v (petrol), all standard at the moment but im looking at getting started with some subtle mods very soon. I think I may just stick with standard for the mean time having read this.
    Cheers guys.

well ................ jules had them on her car for 3.5 years and didnt change the front pads/disc's once and thats was with varied(sp?) driving styles inc 1/4 mile runs at crail raceway.

the rears didnt have to change the disc's but there was a small hairline crack went through 3 sets of pads due to a sizing calipers but again thats was them being on the car the same time as the fronts

all in all we were well pleased with them and may use them again in the future, atm they we've changed the fronts for mintex disc's/pads bit better from cold, and give of the same amount (in our opinion) break dust as the ebc

Go get some mintex discs and pads
  11. #11
mintex pads and torox disks are superb for me.

Last time I checked 1/4mile runs involve the go pedal not the brakes, and even then the braking after isnt like a track day where its braking on and off for several hard minutes.

green stuff on a saxo are just dangerous imo
  15. #15
Green stuff on any car are dangerous!

I have green stuff on mine and there fine. If thay get stress cracks in them its due to not letting them 'bake' uve gotta get sum heat in them so there hot let em cool down im the 1st few hundred miles and then there fine. If you don't they glaze and crack. and when disks are fitted the drive flange has to be rust free they just need a wd40ing and fine papering. I went on a Delphi brake course and you shud see the shit they tell you to do when you fit disks and pads!

lol at crail ............. a few hundred yards of tarmac after the finish and then its grass ................ so you do need breaks

as said the've been great for us and paid for themselfs

but thats braking once, I had a set at first thought they were awsome, when i started to use them properly found they overheated very easily and were not really that good, when we took them off they effectively fell appart to.

I'm using red stuff pads all round and they are pretty good. Need a bit of a hard dab to sharpen them up in the morning, but they seem to get better the more heat you get into them. Mine squeal when braking at slow speeds... doesn't really bother me though.

We'll see how they fair with track use though.

    This.

I bedded mine in the same way we do on the race cars (hot then cool) and they've been superb so far in the 6 months i've been running them. No 'vibrations' or cracks, no glazing, and great bite from cool.

My mate also runs them on his 306. He's had his discs glowing cherry red and the pads just laughed and carried on.

I used green stuff on my last car (vectra), they seemed to do the job pretty good.
  22. #22
Green stuff; they are regarded as a first level brake improvement over stock and can deliver up to 15% improvement in stopping power. However Greenstuff is NOT a hard and long lasting pad and drivers may find Greenstuff last LESS MILES. So if your after a harder, longer lasting pad, then red stuff or mintex m1144's will be better.

    Green stuff are wank

Ferodo DS2500 are pure win though

stay clear of the red stuff someone mentioned them above. Guy at ebc even said that to me. Think they are the same price as the yellows? Take an age to bed in, and are meant to ruin the discs, have shite bite from cold etc
Greens are just uprated standard pads really, and not a track pad either.

Yellowstuff and yellowstuff r's are decent enough, cost slightly more than greens but were much better and longer lasting and a hell of a lot less dusty than the mintex m1144s i had.
And can abuse yellows on track and i got zero fade, if you ever fancy going on a track that is.

If it was just a road car and staying that way, pagid oem pads ftw.

greenstuff are not good enough for me to sell them..personally i'd rather run oe pads

    Kev

    Standard are better

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks red stuff are ok for the money.

It just seems like when anyone mentions EBC pads, everyone jumps on the "EBC are shite" bandwagon because one or two people have had poor experiences with green stuff.
  29. #29
I went for standard EBC pads and disc all round in the end.
    Cheers for all the replies

    where you get them from?
  31. #31
i had greenstuff pads on my car and bedded them in properly ect. i was driving rather 'spiritedly' from my work to my house (about 7 miles of back roads), part of this was through a village where it is a 30 limit. after that i gave it the beans again for approx 1 1/2 miles. hit the brakes from 60 ish and the pads went spongy, and so did my pants. i changed the pads later that day for some standard ones. there was loads of life left in the ebc pads but they just didnt seem to live up to my expectations and i wont be using them ever again in any car.
