Safety Devices cage

  1. #1
Looking into buying this SD cage from ab motorsport, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Safety-Devices...item3a427d3954

I emailed them and they said they have the 106 cage in stock? Is that exactly the same as a saxo one or are they different like i know the OMP ones have dash clearance issues.

Does anyone on here have one of these cages? Or could post a link to someone who does.
Also if anyone knows roughly what sort of price i'm looking at to have this fitted? I know it's a "bolt in" cage but i understand mounts need to be welded in etc

Any info would be very helpful, Thanks

For that sort of price + fitting you might be better to go for a custom cage?

106 cage bolts to the boot floor rather than the arches. Also the front legs slightly foul the saxo dash, but a small amount of trimming below the side heater vents sorts this out.

The mounts do need welding in. Not too sure how much places would charge to do this. couple of hundred maybe?

Very expensive to have fitted though (I looked into it lol). But its a very complex cageand needs a lot of welding in comparison to the SD cage. Plus I think theres quite a waiting list for the Custom Cage

hmm, now that's a proper cage, very tempting but would have to save up a bit more cash Would you still be able to have a dashboard with that cage? Looks as though some of the bars would be righ in the way?

yeh, says just under £1500 for it supplied and fitted

Just saves having to buy a safety devices, and look for someone to fit it. I can imagine a days worth of welding to fit one? Say £50 an hour x 8hours = £400 roughly? Just a stab in the dark

Not far off a custom cages one fitted then, just another avenue you could go down for a cage, that's all

So i'd be better going for the saxo one (if i can find one) !

There is a dash bar that runs behind the dash, meaning that most of the dash and everything behind it needs removing. But you dont HAVE to have this bar fitted.

The custom cages one is supplied in bare matal, so you would also have to budget for painting the interior.

The SD mounts are only small, so shouldn't take too much welding. Plus the cage is quite a good fit so should also take minimal arsing about trying to bolt it down to the mounts. Its also supplied powder coated, so no painting (other than the mounts) Could maybe do it in half a day, so £200 roughly maybe? Less if you are friendly with someone who can weld.

its only a small amount that needs trimming for the 106 version. Just means you have to get rid of the side vents. I'll find a pic for you....

    Edit:

If you can get the SD one and get it fitted for not too much £££ i'd go for that and save yourself some wonga, but if your spending over £1k on a cage then you're venturing into a custom cage territory !
