boost pipe

    looking at different boost pipes for my turbo conversion

    im looking at running around 6psi of boost as im not upgrading internals im just having a thicker head gasket with decompression plate

    iwhat size is recommended?

    i was thinking 2" pipes but thought maybe 2.25" or 2.5" what do you guys recommend for a vtr on low boost

    I would try and future proof yourself - if your going for Vts engine now I'd drift towards bigger boost pipes like the 2.5'' but IMO you're limited by the size of the throttle body - what's it's internal diameter?

    the vtr throttle body is 57mm iirc

    i was thinking of 2.5" but i didnt wana get it and end up having pressure drop?


    anyone know the pro's and con's with 2.25" and 2.5"

    IMO I can't see there being much difference between 2.25" and 2.5" unless your looking to run high boost etc. and pushing bhp amounts.

    If you going for low pressure and WON'T want more boost in future then makes sense to go for a small tube to reduce lag - BUT people always tend to want to up the boost pressure in the future . . . . . . .

    yeah well i was going to go for 2" boost pipes but i MAY upgrade to a vts in future

    would 2" boost pipe be good for say 10psi on a vts or would it be to restrictive?

    I haven't tried a turbo conversion with different bore boost pipes or anything so I'm just using common sense here.

    I'm pretty sure 2" won't be restrictive @ 10psi on a vtr turbo if running a normal size turbo (ie not massive, looking for peak bhp figures)

    i was asking if 2" would be restrictive at 10psi on a vts mate not vtr lol

    will be using a gt17... if its possible to run that at 10psi that is

    Sorry, I got confused what engine you were turbo'ing

    I don't know what psi it'll run, but gt17 would be a bit small for a vts I would have thought - I'm no expert on turbo sizes though.

    Common sense would tell me it's too small from looking at the hp from the cars listed here (they all seem to be diesel):

    Surely you want over 200bhp from the vts engine?

    Well I suppose either way you'll need a new manifold going from vtr to vts, so may as well upgrade the turbo for more power on the vts - if you fit a vts engine.

    So maybe stick with the GT17 and 2" boost pipes with the vtr turbo for minimum lag and reasonable power - they can re-think things if you get an 's' engine?
