Standard Suspension set up

    Hi all, I'm looking to get my car back to almost standard, sick of it being so low, it's a pain. I reckon I could live with a 30mm drop at most, but I still want decent handling.

    Anyone got any suggestions on some maybe uprated springs that would give a standardish ride height?

    I think Avo do 25mm/30mm lowering springs

    Raising it to about 30 might improve it
    the geometry will be better around there
    plus dampers ect aren't halfway through there stroke

    there are several makes who do 30/35mm kits

    Steve, do you use standard suspension? I think I vaguely remember reading something about you not lowering your car, but I think you take yours out on track a lot?

    Std suspension is perfectly adequate for fast road and track use provided your not running alot more power than std..

    what planet are you on? its shocking, way too much body roll, unstable under braking. All standard suspension is good for is running across huge kerbs

    how about bilstein B4 dampers (OE spec but gas filled) and Eibach pro-kit springs (-25mm drop).
    That will give an OE quality ride but with the benefit of a better centre of gravity and slightly improved springrate (about 20%)

    I am back on standard suspension after having group n bilsteins, 21mm torsion bars, 200lb springs.
    It handled really well on track, but got to firm for road use.

    Standard isnt at all that bad, seen a few standard VTS on track now, the body roll is emense but tbf still more or less keep up its not like you leave them standing, but you can tell they are at the limit lol

    One thing i have noticed is there is a lot more understeer and wheel spin in the wet, with standard suspenions and oem mounts.

    My VTR was on spax 40mm springs and oem shocks, used to stick to the road like glue tbh, felt better than my VTS for some reason, could never put my finger on it.

    TBH i find driving B roads on standard suspension more fun than the bilsteins i had, dont know why. I dont even have a rear arb atm, got some bubble wrap instead
    Need to re drill hole and fit m10 bolt as the threads are fucked which hold the end plate.

    Can honestly say i dont really notice a difference not having a rear arb lol

    How is there too much bodyroll? Its a compromise at the end of the day, even the most hardcore hot hatches of today have body roll..

    Depends what you want the car for, std suspension is far better for fast road use on your average B roads etc as there is actually some suspension travel and bumps are absorbed..The car is much less likely to do a 360 over a significant bump too..

    Fair enough if your car is an all out track car then std suspension isn't going to be the best option but its not bad..Its perfectly competant when pushed hard..

    I've had Saxo's wioth various suspension setups..My first one had Bilstein Group N shocks all round on Spax springs and was great, then when i bought a new Saxo which was a totally std VTR, i didnt think it was bad at all..Granted cornering speeds were slightly slower but the car's handling characteristics were much more predictable and i prefered driving it hard than i did with my other Saxo when on the road, abit like Steve said..

    Just my 2 penith....

    I know what you are both saying, however there is a HUGE gulf of difference between standard *NEW* suspension, and standard *70,000 miles* old suspension.

    People take their stock suspension off and want to 'upgrade' and don't even consider that stock replacement parts WILL be an upgrade.
