Help With Cam Choice For My VTR

  1. #1
Looking to drop a cam into my vtr shortly was looking at the kent cams? has anyone any previous experience using kent cams?
I was just wondering which cam to choose either the PT11, PT40 or PT41.
The PT11 is a 276degree cam with a full lift off 110 degrees, with a power band of 2000-6000rpm.
The PT40 is a 266 degree cam with a full lift of 115degrees, with a power band of 2000-6500rpm.
The PT41 is a 292 degree cam with a full lift of 108degrees. with a power band of 2500-7000rpm (supersport cam).

My question is would the PT41 run on standard ecu? as im lookin for the best cam for the most power to use on standard ecu, with a remap on the cards shortly as the PT40 looks a bit of a wasteful cam at only 266degree lol.

    Many Thanks

i doubt the PT41 would run with a standard ecu map.idle would be none existant and the limiter only goes to 6500rpm so you wont be getting the best out the cam.

what you going to use the car for?

car is going to be used mainly on road day to day use going to work and back and every now and again taking it on a track day or 1/4mile runs i want something thats guna give me good reputable power if need be ill put uprated valve springs in so im able to raise the rev limiter.

well with the pt41 youd only have to raise the limiter to 7,000.
for road use id go for pt11 tbh, idles still gonna be up and down with 41 even with a map.passing mot will be harder with 41's aswel.

I'd go for pt41, if I was to go to all the hassle of fitting the camshaft and getting it mapped up you'd want the best torque/power really.

Im with raunchz, get the most out of the products available to you and the money spent on a remap. Its alot of money to spend, and your obviously power hunting so get the cam which will give you the most return for your money.
So what if the idle is shit, sounds the dogs nuts with the right exhaust

thats exactly what i was thinking Tom what exhausts sound the best with cams installed i want an exhaust where you can here the note change wen the cam comes in at the moment ive got an Ashley 3" Competition Back Box, Supersprint Race Centre and a Raceland 4-2-1 Mani and BMC CDA Air Filter and its pretty loud yet rather raspy at top revs which i kinda like.

What sort of power gains would i be looking to get from the PT41 cam and map with my breathing mods??

    Many Thanks

that exhaust setup is a nice one.
    omp group n inox
    supersprint race backbox
    saxsport
are just a few others to think about.
Cant realy give a power figure, but you should see a nice gain

Go for the PT41. I had the PT40 and it wasn't really a wild cam at all tbh.

Speak to Kent Cams and see whether uprated valve springs are required with the PT41 - if they are, you can get them for £60 from Piper.
