what i want to know is the difference between full and rear cages after a crash

obviously the full cage is stronger

but in an actual crash has anyone seen pics of how the car ended up?

i want a cage for the track but want to keep costs to a minimum

A "full" cage depending one what you mean can be had for £500?

This would cover the rear, front and door bars. Good all round cage that is going to keep you safe. Rear ones dont really protect you as they dont cover the pillars and things so i dont think are keeping you all that safe, obviously better than nothing but it really is worth going for a full one.

Have a look at what Geronomi Cages on here have to offer

    i know what your saying

but as other post, rear is better than nothing

You dont sit in the rear though do you lol.

Just save a bit of extra money and get a full cage mate. Makes the car feel alot more solid and alot safer aswel.

I got mine from Geronimi cages an affliate member on here that give us good discounts.

if you hit the gravel at an angle, you'll roll

it doesnt take much to crumple a saxo's roof

especially at the speeds on track

a lot of people drive on track with half / no cage, it's a major risk that you take, spending the extra on a full cage is always worth it

    edit, image wont work,

I've seen what a rear cage can do, seen pic where the roof has crumpled, and because of the cage, the roof has come down at an angle, still saving the driver. Think about it, the roof isn't just suddenly gonna drop slap bang infront of the cage, where you are, is it?

Rear cage is still better than no cage. Although a full cage is better than a half cage.

Surely even a rear cage will be beneficial as long as its fitted properly, as the main hoop is near to the drivers head and around the B pillars, thus providing additional strength across teh centre of the car? Only benefit of a full cage is that additional support is added around the a pillars to stop the front of the roof bending so much.

this is the info i was after
i know no cage is shit
    rear will protect the rear
    and full is the best

what i wanted to see was what was the saxo like after rolling the car with the rear cage, how did the driver and front seat passenger come out of it?

    i rolled a saxo on a trackday
now have a cage that cost more than my car

with a rear hoo the a pillars can still bend so you can still get a roof the the face

    indeed guys
that was a relatively small crash compared to some ive seen in similar circumstances
and it ruined the roof and i got whacked in the head (scratches on my helmet) i was very lucky tbh

haha ash ive had the compos liek 18 months!

Depends what you use your car for ,one off trackdays or full on race days!! i wouldnt rally my rs focus with just rear cage!! full cage is peace of mind, and what ever happens you get to walk away from smashed up motor, with normaly just few scratches............

Full cage in a saxo after a really bad crash:

If I was buying a cage, just go and get a full cage for that extra £200 or so. Just make sure its heavily padded or have a very low mounted seat when your driving on normal roads. Hitting your head on a metal pole when you crash is practically a death wish

A cage will only protect you to a certain extent in a roll.

If you hit something head on at speed, even with a cage you will still more than likely die.

On the other hand Cloud had no cage in his VTR which he rolled at speed and he survived with just minor cuts and bruises

That white saxo is my mates.

Trust me it just about saved his life, along with the bucket seats!

I'd only run a full cage!

what sort of cage was in that white car? A 6 point cage? Bolt of weld in? Any doorbars?

It looks to have held up very well

Without the cage it'd have been gameover.

Its was a OMP 6 point with doorbars! Bolted in!

I was shocked at the state of the sparco seats aswell!
