Manifold and Inlet manifold

  1. #1
So i'm after a bit more power out of my GTI and was looking at getting a manifold and possibly a new inlet manifold too if they make performance ones?

    So questions are:
    1. Which brand manifold is the best?
    2. What style do i need for best performance? 4-2-1?
    3. Can you get performance inlet manifold or is it not worth changing this?

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Supersprint exhaust manifold is good
raceland does the job but is at the budget end of things.

The c4 inlet fits afaik amd should be an improvment.
    Failing that its itbs

I want to get some bike bodies/jenvey bodies one day but funds are limited at the moment, so don't want to buy something that i'm going to have to change eventually.

So would you recommend keeping my standard inlet for now and just change the exhaust manifold?

Anyone you can recommend for a supersprint?

Yeh I'd stick with standard inlet for now

Supersprint get good reviews from people

Any decent places to get one from that arent going to arse rape me with price? But still having customer service.

Ouch, i just had a look on there, and had a tear come out my eye at the price of it.

I bought Janspeed stainless steel full exhaust's before cheaper than that lol.

What are Janspeed like these days as i'm sure they'd make a manifold for it?

They on par with Raceland or slightly better these days?

Janspeed are good, have used them many times with out fault

have you tried rallye design as its close to you?

Rally design seem to do a 4-1 and 4-2-1 for a 1.6 16v. Which will be better?

Will ring them on Monday to find out what brand they sell as the price looks quite cheap for them.

Though i see Kam do the Janspeed.

Anyone got first hand experience on any of these? Any idea what kind of performance gains i will see from upgrading my manifold swampy?

Ive got the Janspeed on mine, bear in mind its mild steel.

The improvements from a driveablity perspective are great, revs a lot free'er, can feel as if something has been de-restricted on the car. Although actual power gains in terms of BHP will be minimal. Think of it more of smoothing out your BHP curve than actually raising it.

In terms of type, if youre thinking along the lines of individual throttle bodies then go for a 4-1 as it improves peformance higher up the rev range.

Inlet manifold, just leave, but there is a chap on here that can smooth out your existing throttle body for £26 and people have said it makes a noticeable improvement.

    4 2 1 would be my choice
as for gains im not sure

Just rang Janspeed, and they agreed on a 4-2-1. Said a mild steel would be around £200 all in, but could do a stainless steel one but obviously would be a damn sign more expensive.

Sure i saw a pic of someone once who had a calibra turbo inlet mani

exhaust manifold Supersprint, Janpseed, Miltek, Protech and Piper are the easier ones to fit. Anything else like Racelands, Ashley or Sportex you will be tearing your bollocks off getting pissed off fitting them.

If you are on a budget then you can go wrong with Janspeed or the new style protechs, in regards to inlet manifold no point changing as only viable upgrate is the C2 VTS inlet which alloy probably flow a smidge better but you would need to get adapter made for a cable tb as that used fly by.

Other one is rover T series turbo inlet but again that needs adapting

So after researching it seems i'm either going to go for Supersprint or Piper and looks as if im going for a 4-1 as it will be better for when i get my tb's.

With regards to the inlet manifold. Not really worth the ballache of adapting it for little to no benefits then?

Can you put a c2 vts inlet straight onto a vts?
  17. #17
Well it'll fit, but have to sort out fitting a Vts tb and maybe sensors.

Just stick with standard IMO unless going for mad spec

The piper is a little bit cheaper than the supersprint. When you compare the quality of a supersprint/piper to a raceland you can see where your money goes.

Ive got a leak on the inlet mani i think where it joins with inlet, Think need new gasket or inlet and mani.

I've got a raceland 4-2-1 and yea wasn't the easiest thing to fit but i got there in the end and im no expert at all, i just had to remove one of the studs in the head to get it to fit, bearing in mind I'm talking about a vtr. and this is why u want a vtr because I've just bought a very sexual 106 rallye inlet manifold, three times bigger than standard and made out of aluminum, the induction noise is immense
