something different

now i know people always say, go supercharger or turbo, but what i havnt seen is a vtr on carbs! ive seen throttle bodies but not carbs,

through some connections of mine i can get hold of a webber alpha management for about 400nuggets, which is cheap, which would supply me with all the things i need to make the conversion run.

    has this been done before?

several times its been done mate, but mainly a saxo engine in an ax on carbs (or the ax gt head on the vtr bottom end then swapped for twin 40s/45s etc)

im not an expert on the requirements to make it work but with a suitable manifold etc it would work, however dont expect it to pass an mot as it wont (well not legally) as you will never get the emissions or idle correct enough to pass.

Plus carbs are old hat (fine if you have a 15year old ax which you just dump a bigger bottom end in) but on a saxo your going backwards. Carbs have no correction for air or water temp so if its a hot day and you had your carb setup on a cold day it could run lean and you will lose power and it will run like a bag of hammers when not warm. Add the MOT problem and its a problem.

your Better off getting bodies as they will give you more power and with the correct management it will allow for correction of air and water temps to give an optimal car in all conditions.

or you could turbo it & add a few lil bodies!?

just thought it to be diff, an the sweet sound of carbs is just unmatchable, pure sex!

I agree Tombo. I love carbs too. The sound, drivability and throttle response of properly set up carbs just can't be beaten in my book. They are also much more reliable and cheaper and easier to fix than injection. They just give poorer exhaust emissions.

hey tombo, i have an ax and i am putting a vtr engine into it.. i am using carbs just because i cant afford the injection stuff!.. its way too expensive!. especially if it goes wrong coz there are so many components to go wrong.. what i have done is put the axgt head onto the vtr bottom end.. for this you will need all the pullys from the vtr engine to put onto the head and then the distributor unit. i used a standard twin chocke carb from an ax gt to!.. i went in my mates ax gt last night and that pulls very well as standard so i cant wait to get mine on the road!.
