Important! : URGENT. strut bolts

  1. #1
when doing up my strut nut i happend to snap the bolt.
whats the best thig to replace this or is it ok to drive with 2 out of 3?
  2. #2
Will be ok to drive with just two... as long as you're not doing jumps etc.

Unfortunately, you need a new top mount to replace it. From memory, it'll cost you ~£15 from a motor factors for the part.

how do i go about replacing it?
  4. #4
Need to take the strut off the car mate. Pretty sure that involves: removing brake caliper, driveshaft end nut, track rod end from strut, ball joint pinch bolt then use breaker bar to remove ball joint from the strut. Then undo the 3 top mount bolts (or now two) and drop strut off the car.

Depending on what springs you have, you'll probably need spring compressors. Remove the nut from the centre of the top mount, use spring compressors (if necessary) to compress the springs enough for youto fit the new top mount, replace the nut and tighten it up.

Iirc somebody told me that it's an MOT failure if the studs on the top mount are sheared. Could be wrong though.

If that's a serious comment then lol tbh
it is an mot fail it's a broken suspension mounting point

topmounts don't need to be excessively tighiirc it's only about 20nm
