power boost valves

    hi
i was looking into getting a power boost valve. i went to a local modifier and he said it was a gimic, he told me all it did was confuse the engine into thinking it had better fuel economy and was no point.
does any body know if this is true and if there will be any point in getting one

hes talkign rubbish, out theres no point in pumping more fuel in if your not getting more air in.

It may sort some flat spots but inless your running significant mods then not much point

av got the exhaust system and bmc and as i said seeing about the cam, manifold, chip and remap
would this power boost valve help

i wouldnt bother with a "boost-valve" tbh, there claims are far to optimistic for a £80 engine mod. how can it improve acceleration and remove flat spots but save fuel at the same time?!? all they do is emit a high pitch whistle and piss you off!!

id just focus on the manifold cams etc.

id get your car to a rolling road specialist and ask for a full print out of your fuel emmitions etc. from the data you get it will tell you if you even need a pbv.

lauren i think your confusing a FSE with one of those crap things which name i cant remember which goes into the fuel line and is supposed to create a swirl effect.

The FSE is a good mod IF you have the need for exact fuel pressure, as ive said many a times (must write a guide on this simo) if you get a cam, and optimum fuel pressure for power and torque is at 3.7bar of fuel pressure, which fuel pressure do you fit? a 3.5 bar one or a 4bar one? 3.5 wont give the best and a 4bar will be too much, an FSE will allow you to set it at EXACTLY that. But thats only if it needs it, on a standard engine its not.

And the reason its better for acceleration is because the pressure is high when you SNAP the accelerator down it puts extra fuel in (a change of air with no fuel = lean which hampers acceleration) where as uprated fuel pressure means the extra air has extra fuel injected UNTIL the ECU realises and then takes it back out.

had one on my vtr before mate and they are shit, dont get one

    yeah sorry ratty i was

Gaf! they arnt shit they are useless on their own but if the fuel pressure for opitmal is say 4bar then yes there is no point having one but even on a small cam change its probably not needed.

btw gone are the days that garages/performance places ACTUALLY know what things do and if they will work, they are all sales related so just say oh this is crap and thats better but ask them why and ill bet they cant give you a proper answer "oh its just they dont do what they are supposed too" (so thats why they make and sell them, because they dont do what they are supposed too)

where as places like GMC, TMS etc will give you honest advice, they cost slightly more but thats because they have tried it and ill bet they give a better answer if you ask them.

lauren: I still cant remeber what its called answers on a postcard.

    ecotek
  12. #12
thats it! how did you know Scott, you got one?
  13. #13
i have 11 it makes the car run so lean i have vapourised a few mm off the pistons and have lowered compression so much that i now run about 11bar off my eRam electric superturbohairdryer and dont have to worry

    ha ha

    ill try the ecotec then
