Exhaust System

  1. #1
hi all, my mk2 VTS exhaust is blowing right before the box in the centre of the car (like right under the handbrake) am i right by saying this doesn't contain the catalytic converter and the cat is actually in the manifold?

if so whats the point of this box? what would happen if i put a 'decat' pipe on so its just a straight pipe without the box? would this fix the blowing and would it make the car sound better?

    thanks.

Yes your cat is in the centre iirc hop underneath adn check though

And nothing would happen mate, it would actually be a good thing.

The box is there to make the system quieter, and it would fix the blowing if its replacing the part of the system with the blow. And it would sound a little better yes, what exhaust have you got mate?

all vts's have cats underneath. only silvertop vtr's have cats in manifold and some furios so im told

you will have two boxes underneath if your car has a standard system, the first box towards the front of the car will be the cat and the one behind it is a silencer

    cheers fella

he could just get an aftermarket one but i got the impression that he thinks he needs a new exhaust when that doesnt seem to be the case from what he said.

there are always plenty of good priced exhaust to get on here in the for sale section

    thanks for the replys

just another quick question... where does the decat pipe connect from and to? is it from the manifold to the silencer box?

    thanks again.

    Ash.

the system on a vts goes as follows from front to back

manifold - cat - centre pipe with silencer - backbox

therefore the decat pipe goes in between the manifold and cat. however some decat pipes such as the supersprint race tube replaces the cat pipe and the centre pipe as one piece and it takes out both the cat and the centre silencer.

the supersprint pipe is widely known on this site and is a good price, its available from kamracing website at a good price. kamracing also use this site just have a search mate
