i have an issue at the moment, in january i need to pay for a new cambelt, new water pump. even though it doesn't need, by may as well change it, brakes, Mot, clutch and a couple other things not to mention a service....

The above mentioned jobs will cost close to £600

    or...
should i try and get hold of a lower mileage engine and box, as mine has done 113k

any help would be great, the car needs to be reliable as it is my daily driver. are there any problems if i just change the box and engine??

    any help would be great

    thanks

depends really. How many of them miles have you put on that engine?

As you might be able to find a 80k engine, but 50k of them miles could be 'bouncin off ze limita from cold'. Whereas you would know if your engine has been looked after/ serviced regularly.

    If you get me?

Imo it's best to stick to same engine. (my sparkplug has come out, so my threads in head are funked) So i'm in the same situation as you. And i've gone for the repair my old engine path.

depends what engine aswell, if you have a vtr and fancy the extra power and can afford the running costs then get an S engine, but if your happy with whatever speed you have then just fix it and give it a good service

Remember you'd really look to replace the cambelt and service the 'new' engine before you put it in.

113k is fine if it's been looked after

Let me put it this way
new engine and box £400 fitting £250-600
You should replace everything on the new engine whilst its out the car another £150-200

You might aswell keep your current engine. Get one of us discount mechanics to do the work for you and save yourself a fortune
