VTS Idle...

Ill try and be as specific as I can as this kinda problem could be an endless number of things, however thought I would try here to see if anyone else has had this before and can pinpoint what it could be! I have a MK2 single plug vts and since I have owned it, the idle goes a bit lumpy every so often. I really want to try and sort it out purely because its bugging me and not because its causing me any major problems (just an annoyance!). If I leave my car to idle for a 5 miuntes or so to warm it up on the drive - the engine will suddenly go into a rough spell for around 30 seconds or so. Sometimes its not as 'bad' as other times as it gets close enough to cutting off. Never seems to actually cut off on the drive when im idling, however every so often when im coming up to a junction and press the clutch and the revs drop, it will cut out. Recently when driving it down my favourite roads and pulling high revs, it also cut out - it has never done this before since I have owned the car.

I'm thinking this could be the coil - pack but want to test to see if this is the cause before buying a new one for over £100 - any ideas how you can do this? I fitted a brand new throttle body about a year ago as we were adament it was that, however the problem is still there. Fuel filter, spark plugs etc. have been changed very regulary and still does this. My car has a decat, so maybe this is just what happens without the cat on - my VTR never did that and was decatted though.

Ive got a similar problem. not as bad as you though. It doesnt idle or rev smooth at all. It hunts just a little.

Got a feeling theres a slight air leak. Sounds like your might have the same problem

My Furio does the same, i've been told it could be the idle control valve, sometimes it cuts out at roundabouts/junctions etc, and will even idle at 2000rpm when cold until I restart the ignition.
My car is decatted sometimes, for track use of course, and has a K&N 57i, but it has done this on and off since before either of these two modifications were added.

I changed the throttle body and all the sensors on the unit and still have the same problem - every case is different I guess, but didnt solve the problem for me.

Poor idling on the VTS is almost normal. Unplug and replug the electrical connectors on every sensor (MAP, flywheel, temperature etc) a couple of times (and the big one on the ECU) to improve electrical conductivity. This helped on mine.

Also, some people on here will disagree with me on this, but it worked for mine, remove the MAP and clean it by spraying wd40 inside.

could be coilpack or ecu coolant temp sensor on the thermostat (green one)
i can get you brand new coilpacks for £60 delivered
