vibration on acceleration

  1. #1
Just drviving back from my dads yesterday, and now my car has started massively vibrating when i accelerate, so much that in first and second if you try to accelerate hard enough it shakes from side to side so much you can hardly keep it in a straight line... its fine when im not accelerating... and is fine when im freewheeling... What do you reckon? Gearbox mounts? Driveshafts?

Hello there, Could be the tracking/balancing. Get a garage to take a look anyway If I was you, If It just In need of balancing It won't cost much.

I cant see how it would be the tracking because it was fine before and wasnt progressively bad, just suddenly turned into a juddering mess of a car within a few minutes..

Engine/gearbox mounts exhaust vibrating.Does it do it when you brake?if so you need new discs & pads.

    Steve.

No doesnt vibrate when im braking.... so you reckon its gearbox mounts?

It sounds like you engine mounts are fooked...

    Engine mounts.

    excuse the high jack,

got a similar prob, but it only does it at 56 - 60 going on a slight up hill

everything looks tight and in good order, engine mounts and the breaks are are all in good order, could be the balancing and the tracking but im asking incase its something else..........

    cheers Scotty

if its doing it at a certain speed regardless of acceleration then it is more than likely the tracking/wheel balance

If you have alloys check you havent lost a wheel weight mate.

I have the same problem just started i have been driving about 1000 miles

The car is fine when ignition is of and out of gear

But in gear and accelerating it shackes side to side violently

Open the bonnet and give the engine a good shake, if there's more than a few mm of movement, you've broke a mount. The aftermarket engine mounts are generally shit in my experience but for £5 - £8 each you can't expect much.

It'll be a driveshaft that's the problem, I've had the same issue previously on my 106 and recently had the same problem with the prop shaft on my daily.

Had this a million times on my VTR and 106 GTi, always been driveshaft, gearstick goes crazy too when accelerating yes? Or at least wobbles? Will be a driveshaft, could be engine mount but I'm 99.9% sure driveshaft that's at fault, get underneath and check for play in the shaft (side to side and left and right) and jack the car up rotate both front wheels and listen for any clicking or abnormal sounds

Broken engine mount usually gives vibration through the car on idle rather than the motion your talking about, if the gearbox mount has gone your know about it (top) as the car violently lurches when pulling away, if the bottom mount is gone or missing like my power flex one did (grrrr) your feel the engine donk against the car, if the ecu one has gone it wil vibrate like said above my money's on a fubar driveshaft

Yes it was driveshaft garage told me
