As people have said there a one shot deal. Its also worth spending a little more and getting good quality parts if your thinking of holding on to the car for some time.

All depends what headgasket you fitted.
The speso one i have here to fit to my s16 can be reused so long as it isnt damagd.
Did cost a little over £100 though!

New ones are always a good idea!

the 1s that are on it at the moment are from gsf parts cost me 62.00 for both so i duno might just get new ones
  9. #9
£62 for a headgasket ?! Im guessing thats for a headgasket set? Even so IMO its still expensive!

They are only £43 iirc from Citroen, headbolts £22 from Citroen

Remind me never to buy a car off beu 2046
a standerd gasket should never be re used.
Head/stretch bolts however can be so long as they are with in tolerance
  13. #13
but technically it will be fine.......hows that then?
  14. #14
never ever reuse a head gasket, nuff said!
  15. #15
exactly, you snapped you cambelt and drove the car miles? how did tha happen? if you snapped your cambelt driving the valves and poss pistons should be fubared and the engine should have stopped almost imediatley? or have i read that wrong? i had a h/g in the sale section but its just sold £12 posted

and why do you need two headgaskets?
  17. #17
i have to confess....many years ago i had to repair an old digger engine, think it was a perkins, they had copper head gaskets and due to lack of spares availability,i stuck it in the oven to soften the old gasket up and re-used it, absolutely no way i'd re-use a gasket on something as common and cheap to fix as a saxo engine, unless of course i was in the outer reaches of somalia being persued by machete wielding head-hunters and it was my only means of escape.

well it will work fine, but i doubt it would last exactly the same length of time as a brand new one would, hence i wouldnt do it on my own car, but the cost of a new one it would be pretty silly not to replace it!

cant imagine you removing a torque'd h/g and refitting it and it not leaking like, im sorry but it just doent happen, once its disturbed its fucked, you can with motorbikes on occasions but not cars like. and even on bikes i wouldnt reccomend it.

    this is bollox

when you torque up the headbolts they get to there yield point where they have maximum strength however they will be weakened, only a fool would reuse the bolts imo

i am going to get new gaskets cambelt and headbolts 2 moro morning
so i will be fitting them 2 moro night

a few of the torkes on the head bolts look rounded off so if i cant get them off is it a grinder job any suggestions welcome
  25. #25
if you grind the heads off how do you plan to get the rest of it out?
  26. #26
i havent throught that far ahead yet lol
i dont want to put a new engine in just over 2 headbolts
is there any way of getting them out
  27. #27
How are they rounded?! You sure you're talking about headbolts?!

I'm guessing you're not using an E14 socket to loosen them?
  28. #28
Yes you would be a fool.
But it is possible to do, its not something id do or recommend.
You also need to be able to very accuratly measure the length.
And if you grind the head off you will be left with a shaft that you can screw out.
    Various ways of achieving that.

nah i got all of them out apart from 3 witch look slightthley rounded off so i didnt wana make it worse
yes i am talking about the head bolts ive got a new rocker so if i have 2 grind the tops off ill put that 1 on

You shouldn't have to grind them off I wouldn't have thought - just put an E14 socket on them and undo them, should be fine tbh.

otherwise just drill off the top of them - you should be able to do it fine without damaging the rockers as the headbolts aren't a tight fit inside the hole in the rockers
