Important! : Gearbox or Clutch??

    Hi all

I have a '99 Saxo VTR, T reg. For a while now, its noisy, sort of a growling sound - but as soon as I put the clutch pedal down, the noise completely stops and sounds as a car should. When I release the pedal, it starts again. When driving, again its noisy except when the clutch is pressed. Its been getting noisier over time, HOWEVER, it doesnt seem to make any noise when in 5th, only the first 3 gears mainly... Also - dont know if its anything to do with it, but sometimes I have difficulty getting it into reverse, ie. it wont, I have to lift the clutch pedal, then repress and try again. A couple of times when Ive taken off from the driveway, it 'falls' out of gear. I think its something to do with the clutch, but I know very little about cars.

    Can anybody help?? Any suggestions??

    Thanks

Release bearing (just incase you dint get the message from the previous posts )

Also its better to buy a whole new clutch rather than just the release bearing will save you money in the long run

hi mate ive just had this problem it was the release bearing it cost me £100 for a clutch kit and another 100 fitting. Mines a qh clutch and its works superb. Would recommend a qh or a valeo
