when should the cambelt be changed

  1. #1
hi, after reading a few threads about 'my cambelt has snapped' its got me paranoid, at what millage is a cambelt suposed to be changed (for some reason i thought it was 45k) and now and agen i keep hearing a noise from the engine bay (sounds like its right in front of me , so drivers side) anyway its the sound of a belt sqeaking, it does it most of the time when i first start my car and pull off, or if i drop it dwn a gear , like from 3rd to 2nd, a friend says it could be the alternator belt..

    any help on this,,
    cheers

the squeaking is your alternator belt slipping, just tighten it up and it will be fine, ad yh like they all said 50k is a good time to replace one
