#2yea it will perish the rubber i think. just get a orbital sander sure u can pick one up cheap. then u on;y gotta hand rub the fine grit over by hand if u want
-
#3just be careful with it around the edges
-
#4YEAH I WILL JUST DO IT BY HAND GOT 8 DAYS TO GET THEM READY, TOOK ME AN HOUR AND A HALF TO DO ONE WHEEL WELL TIRED NOWQuote:yea it will perish the rubber i think. just get a orbital sander sure u can pick one up cheap. then u on;y gotta hand rub the fine grit over by hand if u want

CHEERS MATE BUT GUNNA DO IT BY HAND NOT WORTH THE RISK -
#5b&q have got cheap orbital sanders going save u loads of time. and hand ach but feel your pain as i did all three of mine by hand fully back to metal before i found the orbital
-
#6i have an orbital sanders but think its too big to get in the small bits , have you got a mini one ???
-
#7nah i just used full size one on all faces and in corners as much as i could as i got soft soft pad on it, then hand sanded rest i couldn;t get too. you'll be surprised how many areas u can actually get at with it if u try
-
#8will give it ago just eating my dinner now i will be happy with an alloy a night did you use wet and dry ???
-
#9hell yea i used it. tons of the stuff till i found orbital. from what i seen of the s wheels tho they seemed fairly flat anyway? used 80 grit first to get rid of crap then 200, 600 and final 1200 to finish off but to be honest didn;t really need 1200 in the end
-
#10Get the tyres took off if you want a proper paint job on them
nitromors needs to be dabbed on too, then just use a wire brush on a drill, try and blunt the brush a bit to make sanding it easier -
#11does that work for doing all over the wheels? i used one for the valve holes and wheel bolt holes but on the wheels themselves left to mainy deep marks to sand out?
-
#12yeah mate you can buy a 5 piece set of wire brushes, blunt them on a flagstone or something first so they dont dig into the metal, your only using them to basically flake the paint off
longer you leave the nitromors on the better, and as said dabbing works better than brushing it on
Thats how i did mine when i metal polished them anyway, only marks left were the pitting of the metal which is natural from casting process -
#13didn;t even think of using wire brushes like that. altho the metal polishing i;d like to try on the lip of my 205 wheels
-
#14If you wanna bring them over to me i can get them shotblasted for you. tenner a wheel.
Also, to add to the above, i used a wire bush when doing some wheels, the stuff goes everywhere, including your face and eyes. Not nice! -
#15cheers people this is aking ages still on first wheel hands are dead can i go down from a 120 grit wet and dry to a 80 grit wet and dry dont want to scratch wheels
-
#16and u all laughed at me when i said i took weeks to sand down my wheels by hand. i know how u feel buddy
-
#18Did you catch what i said? £10 a wheel to have them shotblasted.
-
#19i did 80 on the bad bits then 120,240, 400, 600 by then they were pretty good then a quick 1200 over. but pretty u can miss the 120 400 and 600 out

-
#21just get that orbital out to do most of the hard work with 240 grit on it then rest by hand will save u so much time
-
#23if its anything like mine its avoiding any more bloody sanding
-
#24I have acess to a fairly powerful jetwash, it removes paint. Too powerfull for a car.
-
#25i didnt have a problem with nitromors, i was careful round the edges and had a little tub of soapy water and a sponge next to me incase it went on the tyres, which worked fine =] definately recommend nitromors for quickness but for a proper job just get the tyres taken off =]
