    what year did roller rockers come into action in the vtr engine?.

    o.k cheers, the bloke i bought the engine off claims it is a 99 and it has roller rockers. just checking!.

    How can you tell? i have a 2000 xreg mk2 vtr and cam kits for roller type is £200 but its £365 for non-roller types

    if you take the rocker cover off and have a look at thr rocker assembly you will see that the roller rockers have wheel that meet the camshaft, non roller rockers dont have the wheels.. i will take some pics of the two engines i have to show you the difference!.

    roller rockers are in the cylinder head.. basically cam followers!.. they pivot on a shaft hence the name rockers.. on one end the camshaft pushes and the other end taps the valves.. hence adjusting the tappets!...
    the difference between roller and non roller is that the roller rockers have a roller bearing on the camshaft end to reduce friction!.. thefore being more economical and giving a little more power!.

    My old vtr was a silver top and that was a 99 and had roller rockers.

    im pretty sure infact almost 100% certain that all silver tops are roller rockers, black top is non roller.

    but there are journal size differences between early and late silvertops ie 90 and 98bhp models.

    These are for a mini but basically the same apart from the anodising
