what are the pros and cons of heat wrapping your exhaust:
a pro must be it keeps engine bay cooler
but i heard that heat wrapped manifolds normaly crack along the welds because they get hot

the main advantage of heat wrapping is that gasses flow faster when they get hotter,so my insulating the mani/exhaust it will retain its heat within and speed up gas flow, engine bay being cooler etc is just a positive trade off.
never heard of cracks in welds,a good system should not crack.

no thats what i thought... ive never heard of them cracking on saxos but at racing it happened to a few xr2s

Heat wrap is really for protecting other parts from the exhaust heat. It will also speed up gas flow, but I read an interesting article that said heatwrap will affect the pulse tuning of the manifold so i'm in two minds on whether people should fit it for that reason alone.

hmmmm,i assumed it was more for gas flow the protecting everyhting else in they bay.

It could change the harmonics within the system, therefore effecting the pulses.

please do tell more as I currentlly have a mani waiting to be wrapped or not wrapped.

Whats the proper way to heatwrapping??, should you be doing the whole system? i.e Manifold, stop at the gasket so you can clamp on center pipe - wrap center pipe to the next clamp for backbox? and heatwrap backbox??

Or should it just be the manifold?

up to you most people just do the mani though. Yeah stop at each join if you do decide to go the whole way.

I'm sure somone on here did the centre section too but had issues with melting there bumper

I forget the details, but I think the effect is the same as shortening the primaries and secondaries of the manifold. The article was saying that if yrun an optimised manifold t you may not get the desired effect if you heatwrap or ceramic coat the manifold. Realistically this is more concerning for race engines with small rev ranges, rather than road cars where things are not so critical.
Use heatwrap or a heat shield if the manifold is affecting inlet temperatures and other parts that heat is an issue.

The two main worries I have with heat wrapping, are the irritation you get working around it and most of all, the fire risk if any oil gets into it; the latter is not to be underestimated.

ye i wanna do it but wanted to see if theres alot init or any issues with doing it
