How do you seal VTS cam covers?

Thinking of getting a second and having them colour coded, just dont know how to re-seal them?

Is there a gasket or seal that has to be renewed? Or do it has to be sealed using a putty/paste?

It's Hylomar Blue. lol. It's a gasket sealant.

There's a few others you can buy though. Halfords sell a few types.

Just don't go over the top with it or you will make a right mess!

    Cheers guys!

Is it easy enough to do? Just a thim bead of sealant over all the sufaces that make contact with the head?

Whats the best method to remove the old sealant?

Stanley blade will get it off, just be careful.

It usually involves a thin bead of the sealant, wait so long for the vapours to evaporate and then plonk them together and tighten.

Don't remove the factory seal, make sure you keep it intact. If you paint the covers, bolt them to a flat, smooth, clean surface and then paint them on that, that way the seal will remain intact Or tape over the standard seal and insides of the covers.

Then if they were leaking a little originally, when refitted, clean the area so no oil, put a bead of sealant around the join, filling the gap, leave to set for 1-2days before starting engine.
