i can hear a clunk noise, i think from the drivers side when i steer at certain angles. im thinking my drop links gone on that side. anyone else with any ideas?
clunk noise when steering
-
#1
-
#2could be ur power steering pump,or low fluid, i got a simliar noise but i dont have power steering so dont no wat it could be
-
#3could be cv joint going
-
#5CV joint or pump are both good suggestions. I swear this happens on all saxos lool - French mechanics
-
#6ball joint or arb drop links, i can supply both cheap.
-
#7my cv joints getting done at the mo, clunky noise on full'ish lock when reversing and then BANG it went on the motorway at the weekend.
-
#8it was my CV joint when my car had this problem
-
#9It could be a number of things. Worst case could be your steering rack.
-
#10Just got my car back on the road after CV joint change, back to normal thank goodness. Oh and the point I was going to make was that the clunk noise has gone when reversing etc.
-
#11Mine makes the same noise from the drivers side, but its weird coz when i just let go of the steering wheel in a straight line the wheel turns itself about 1/2 way round to the left and the car follows? Bit odd anyone got explaination?
-
#12sounds like your tracking is well out
-
#13But its been fine until yesterday when i hit a speed bump i kinda hear a little knock but only occasionally the wheel turns itself left? Then the large bang when i turn whilst going very slow speed 5mph?
-
#14you had someone look at it
id suggest if you dont know what your looking for you'd be best off taking it to someone who does, get it on the ramps tell him to take it for a test drive then go from there -
#15it could b that 1 of your track rod end's have broken or came lose i had it on mine changed them and the noise seem's to be gone.
-
#16aye get that noise to:O. maes a huge thud when im on full lock
-
#17Im pretty suree its too loud to be simply the track rod ends what is abit worrying if im honest, its going to the garage tomorrow hopefully its nothing too major =]
-
#18Most common things (some already mentioned) are:
Drop links - you can get these for £30 a pair
CV joint on driveshaft - cheap for the part but if you need to pay someone to change it i dare say itll be near £50 from a professional garage unless you know someone thats in the know.
Top Mount bearings - if very worn then these can knock, again £20 a pair
Those are probably the main 3
Other than that there are still several suspension parts which could give similar symptons, all of which are cheaply priced so its nothing major to worry about
-
#19yhyh mines makes that noise when on full lock i though it might ov been my bottom strut but obv not lol
-
#20Found the problem SO SIMPLE, the suspension coil has snapped where it overlaps as the wheel turns it "pings" nearly lost it on the roundabout because of it a touch scary
