Engine related insurance question

  1. #1
I have a VTS which im breaking but i keep thinking the shell is too mint, theres hardly any rust on it and hardly any dents. Sadly the engines knackered though, but i'm wondering what insurers would say if i fitted a 1.1 from a lower model saxo so i can insure it?

To anyone who's bought stuff off me don't panic - you'll still get your bits even if i do this as i still wont be on the road soon so i will source some for me later on!

why fit a 1.1 may i ask? why dont you drop another 16v engine in for the sake of a couple hundred quid

if u put a 1.1 i cant emagine it would even matter but to be fair go for vtr cheap and easy or meet halfway and get a 1.4 lol

would probably be more expensive than the standard vts to insure becuase its had an engine change that isnt like for like

all you have to do is fit it, get it engineer checked and reregistered as a 1.1. Then you will just insure it as a normal 1.1. Cheap

As above it may cost you more. Just put another vts engine in it, be less hassle.

I only asked as being 18, VTS insurance isn't happening full stop I have a 1.4 Quikky engine kicking around now it's mentioned but i'd only do this work if i knew full stop i'd get Quiksilver insurance.

See i was basing this on being told most insurers insure cars with an engine change as the car the engine is from, because its such a grey area.

Like if you declared a VTR with a VTS engine, you'd be paying VTS insurance. If you had a 1.1 fiesta with a 2 litre mondeo engine, you'd pay mondeo insurance, and so on. Going on this it would be worth doing it from my point of view, as the shell is so straight bar one front wing having a teeny dent

If that is the case then won't they take a VTS shell with a 1.1 engine as a modified 1.1 as you won't have the bodywork standard to a 1.1 car. They'd then probably charge you more saying that it's had a bodykit fitted etc? Dunno if that's exactly right but seems like the kind of thinking insurance companies use.

ur gonna need specialist insurance and being 18 itll cost a fortune anyway, just stick a vts back into it then sell the car as a whole..

OR....... ring up a few insurance companies... explain what you want to do.. and get some quotes. Or as above just put a VTS lump in it and sell it as a whole that way you'll probably make more money because people are always after a well looked after VTS.

Yeah but i've sold a few parts of it anyway by the time i've replaced them, the engine, re-taxed it etc its too much work for a car i wouldnt keep.

save yourself a hell of alot of hassle then.... there is no point waisting money especially if its to downsize your engine mate.... in your case i would strip it sell all the parts to make yourself some money then sell the shell if you think its that good someone will buy it for track cars etc... then you'll have some extra money and get yourself a whole new car without havin to do anywork and you could actually choose something you can afford etc.... hope this may be a constructive solution for you mate.
