Vts lost drive??

    Hi all
i would like a bit of advice please. I have lost drive to front wheels, i can engage gears, but no transfer to wheels, has anyone any experience of this? Is it kikley to be a diff problem or gearbox?
When it happened, there was no abnormal noise, it just lost drive, i dont suspect the clutch as there was plenty of bite with pedal half way out. The car has only done 61k with full history and no previous transmission problems.
I would be ever so grateful for any pointers as to, is a second hand box a worthwhile option, or is it an easy strip down and re build?
    Many thanks

    Nackerd drive shafts?

Did you experience knocking when going round corners?

No knocking going round corners, drive shafts look to be ok.

    Any leaking

No. No leaks from anywhere around gearbox. It will go into gear, all 5 and reverse, let foot off the clutch and there is no drive going to wheels.thanks for your input.

does it actually go into the gears or is it jsut the gear stick going into the gears not the clutch? some sort of linkage mabey?

if the clutch pedal is fine and it selects all gears fine then its your box as the same thing happened to my vts

if it was your shafts then it would have gradually got worse

Sounds like the diff has gone, or clutch completely shagged.

Either way it's a box off job so can judge whether or not to change the clutch then

    Hi All
My dad took box out, stripped it down, and found the crown wheel drive gear was spinning on the diff unit, it looks like the crown wheel is a shrink fit to the diff unit, fitted secondhand box, he is going to get the crown wheel welded and balanced, it seems that the torque generated during fast, down shift, gear changes may be the cause, we have spoken to a few rally boys and welding the crown wheel works if done correctly. The gearbox strip down is a very straight forward job ifyou take your time and have the right tools. Very interesting.
