Cost of new bumper & wing

  1. #1
Hi all, newbie to these forums. I need some advice so thought I would come here!

I drive a Saxo VTR and the bumper had a fight with a high kerb at the weekend. Needless to say the car came off worse, ripping off the front wing and a large chunk of the bumper. And as this was driver side, it damaged the the washer pump too.

I've looked at cost of parts on the net and found the cost to generally be:

    Bumper - £100
    Wing - £50-£60
    Splash guard - £15
    Headlight finisher - £5-£10
    Washer pump - £20ish

So I can get the parts fine. My problem is getting them sprayed and fitted. I called one garage near me and they quoted £520 for parts and fitting. I asked how much it would be to spray and fit if I got the parts myself and they said double!

So, to cut a long story short, could anyone please help me out with:

    a) How much should I be paying for this work
    b) Any recommendations of somewhere around the Bromley/Kent area that could do it

I would be forever in your debt.

    Many thanks.

Get them sprayed and fit them yourself...

Spraying your looking at £200 ish...

Or go on ebay find the same colour car (saves spraying)

2nd hand parts off eBay, ask on forums how to fit n find somewhere in the yellow pages that do budget spraying if on a tight budget

Agreed, get the parts off a scrap car and forget it happened.

I could do it with brand new parts, plus paint plus labour. You would be looking into the region of 400 to 500.

Get everything second hand, you could be looking at about 100 on parts, already in the right colour. Fit them yourself, or about 60 quid for someone to swap them for you.

Thanks very much for your help guys, much appreciated.

Getting second hand parts the same colour will be difficult because it's the 2 tone silver/grey vtr. Suppose the headlight finisher can come from any silver saxo, but the bumper and wing will most likely need spraying for the grey.

So my best bet then is to get second hand parts, get them sprayed then fit them myself? Sounds good. Loads of second hand bumpers on ebay. Shouldn't have too much trouble getting the wing either.

One other question, as the bumper and wing were ripped away/snapped, is it likely to have damaged anything of the fittings or whatever that they attach to? And how much of a problem would that cause?

Are you still driving it?? If not - strip it down on your drive and have a look at the damage first...

Still driving it but I can strip it down and have a look at it over the weekend. I'm not quite sure if the fog light is fitted to something else behind the bumper, if it is then that fixing is broken for sure.

Just had another quote of £105 for paint and materials and £320+VAT for spraying and labour of removing old parts and fitting new ones. That's on top of sourcing the parts. Man! I would spray it myself but I don't have a clean environment big enough to do it in.

I'm in Orpington in Kent. BR5.

Tempted to just buy a second hand plain silver bumper, fit it as is and get it sprayed grey when I can afford it.
