Whats involved to change a rear axle? *** Stub Pin Question - Post 11***

My VTS needs a new rear axle

Thinking of buying a refurbished one from IM Axles, but getting there to fit it is causing a few headaches

Just wondering if anyone could explain whats involved to swap the axle over?

when i got my car lowered the guy had to take off the rear axle!!
he had to bleed the brakes.
    remove all the bolts etc.
take the rear hubs off the axle also.
    took a good while..

id personally have a garage do it.

easy peasy, unbolt brakes and unclip hoses, undo 4 bolts drop axle. simples, theres a thread on how to do it somewhere.

Or is there someone local to me that would fit it for a good price?

i swapped mine cos i bought a pre lowered one. took about 2 hours. you don't have to bleed the brakes if your carefull and disconnect everything properly.

eh? How does that work !?

you'll need to disconnect the brake lines and connect them upto the new beam - who says the new beams brake lines are full of fluid and no air?

For the sake of 2 mins well worth bleeding them !!

Will be fitting braided lines so i'll have to remove the lines

Don't know how to bleed the brakes though, nor do i have any brake bleeding gear?

How do you remove stub pins?

And do you just pull the seals out and remove the bearing?

And do the reverse to refit it?

Just thinking of doing the refurb myself

Going into pikey mode and trying to save money...
