Rocker cover spraying UPDATE

  1. #1
Going to spray my rocker cover the weekend, i'm using High temp Spray so will i need primer and laquer?

Also would it be advisable to change the seal? as mine doesn't look cracked?
  2. #2
I'd still change the seal to be on the safe side.

Alot of paints, like Hammerite, don't need primer or lacquer. Just read what it suggests on your tin.

It's halfords shite and it doesn't say lol

Well for about 4 quid i may as well get a new seal.

If you're stripping it all down, I'd undercoat it to be on the safe side then! lol. get a more even coat that way too.

I've got some metal primer, so i don't think it would hurt to apply some of that 1st.

Oh best place to buy Cover seal?
  6. #6
Pug/Citroen if not discontinued like some. Failing that just use gasket sealant which you can buy from motor factors
  7. #7
im about to do this and ordered a new rocker cover gasket from citroen for £13,what grades of sandpaper are best for this job?
  8. #8
i wouldn;t lacquar as i did mine and now its all bubbled up. but hammerite id def ok on rocker cover that didn;t bubble or nothing
  9. #9
    Ah right, no laquer then.

Will use something like 400 as it's pretty rusty.

Also where do you get the little sticker that goes on the coveR?

  11. #11
    IS this it ?

Also where can you get the sticker from ?
  12. #12
If your lazy like I would be, you could get it sand blasted rather than use the sand paper. Blasting it would be much easier, faster and cleaner.
  13. #13
How much would that cost roughly?

Place local to me would do it for about a tenner, blasting and powder coating.

Wheels from them are about £30 - £40 each.

It doesn't take that long to do. Take it there in the morning, get it blasted then get them to powder coat it. The paint is baked on rather than left to dry, its then cooled down and you can pick it up.

If it makes you feel any better, book it with them or ring them and ask what the quickest they can do it.
  17. #17
Even if you did it yourself you would have to wait for time for all the primer and then the paint to dry and then before that you would have to spend time sanding it all down.

    Very true, cheers

If you get it done, get up a pic, so we can see the finished item
  20. #20
its such a simple thing to do. I got a better finished when put metal primer on first, sand lightly between coats of final colour too.
  21. #21
or just buy a new rocker cover for £30.

    UPDATE!!!

Well i managed to get the cover off ok, started to sand it down, but the rust was so bad i would need to sand blast it! so that idea went out the window

Now the real fun began putting it back on!

For starters i couldn't get the spacers in the write place, as i had to hold the baffle and spacers to the cover then flip it onto the engine block!

That didn't work, after 100's of attempts it got on my tits and started thinkinh, shit i can't get it back on!

So with my nerves, i thought i would try again, this time one of the spacers fell n the valves! :O

I shat my self thinking that was it im not getting that back out! luckily i managed to get it out without touching anything, fewww!

So finally got it all back on after an hour!

So i'm just going to buy a new cover lol

Twisted wire cup brush would sort it out mate, only set you back about a fiver as well.
  25. #25
mate all you had to do was put the plate on first then put spacers ontop of plate the put cover back on easy as pie lol
  26. #26
    yer ^^^ lol

put the plate on spacers onto the studs the rocker back on top.
  27. #27
I was trying that, but the rocker cover wouldn't go over the baffle plate without pressure, in the end thats what i did lol, but i didn't want to risk pushing the valves!
  28. #28
^i had the same problem lol, every saxo has different ways of doing things lol
  29. #29
if poss mate could you give me a step by step guid or explain how to remove the rocker cover , cuz mine is rusted to shit and am not to sure on how you remove it
  30. #30
undo the 10mm nuts on the left and right side. Then lift the cover off
  31. #31
