get a company to do it, thats the easiest way!

do a search ( brillant thing that search button ) and search for engine conversions as people ask that question a lot and im sure you will find all you need to know

how easy is it to fit! and wat exactly do i need to replace?
  5. #5
Probably quite hard to fit mate. Get a few quotes of companies to see what they charge. Be careful though don't use someone who hasn't got a good rep and check out their past work if you can.

you will need bigger brakes for a start, its a big jump from a 1.1 to a vts, there beasts!

you will also need ecu etc and i think there like 1500 + of something to get one sorced and fitted, but i could be wrong ...

thanks for the help peeps! Would fittin a vtr engine be any easier?
  8. #8
    nope, be there same difficulty

but remember about insurance, it will be more to insure a saxo with a conversion than with a standard vtr/s

it doesnt cost that much for an ecu! if you get one with the engine and get it unlocked etc if the imobiliser blocks itself cost me £200!

he`s right you know!.. its not as hard as people make out!.. just make sure you have all the parts and tools and you are on your way!.. in a garage would be best to do this incase it rains!... not good!.
most people whoi take it to a garage are either: thick, rich, or daddys boys!. DIY and make yourself proud!.

yeah think might give it a shot just got me car back from the bodyshop today! just had the first step done fittin the vt bodykit and its lookin sweet! how much are you lookin at payin for the garage to do the conversion as i havnt got much knowlege on engines!

it depends what garage you take it to!. could cost between 150 for a good garage to 4 to 500 or more..
i can remember the head gasket blew on my rover and to have a garage to do it would cost about 500 quid or more.. so i did it myself.. only thing that cost me was getting the head skimmed!.

fitting is really easy anyone could do it.

just make sure if you have a mk1 car you get a mk1 engine same for mk2 etc

if possible just stick to buying everything from 1 particular car. If you start getting bits and pieces from different cars you might lose track of things.

The bracket that holds your alternator to the engine block was different from my 1.1 engine so i had to source a vts bracket

VTS/R drivers side engine mounting is different. They have a metal housing which the mount sits in. The 1.1 dont have the housing so you cant use VTS mounting. However, although the engines rocks about a bit mine is still OK but i recommend you sort it out

You WILL need bigger brakes. I didnt fit them straight away and i almost totalled my car on day 1 after conversion cause 1.1 brakes cant handle power

I was advised to change to a VTR/S fuel pump to

think that covers all faults/problems i had

    sorry bit long winded
