VTR alloys on Westcoast rubbing

  1. #1
Hi guys, I've had the car a while now (should've really done a progress thread on here but its too late now lol) and the wheels rub on the arches when i reverse in full lock and sometimes when im goin forward. Wondered if cos the VTR alloys arent standard for a Westcoast should i get some spacers? and if i need any what size would be best?

    Cheers Josh

There really shouldn't be any rubbing atall tbh

Check your wheel arch linings are in the correct place, not hanging down a bit etc

don't think so tbh - easy to put vtr alloys on without it looking 'modified'

alright cheers guys. just had a look at it... wheels really far back in the arch not noticed that before... looks like either the body works outta line, or the wheel's been forced back by some impact...

if so, any idea what parts may need replacin if worst comes to worse and it has been shunted back?

Could pretty much guarantee it. Impact with a kerb at some point in its life id suspect

Get a new wishbone and get someone whos familiar with playing about with suspension to have a quick check of other parts for you too

    Any unusual knocking or banging?

Is the wheel only far back on one side of the car or both?

is it on both wheels, as i had this problem and it was only one wheel. and it was the tracking rod was further on one side then the other pulling one wheel in more

    Hi mate, cheers for reply.

Its only on the passenger side, and to be fair it does look like its been smashed back by an impact.

Used to have a bit of knockin but got suspension changed. Garage didnt mention anything tho (i wouldnt expect them to really).

How hard is it to change a lower wishbone? they easy to come by?

    cheers again!

also, forgot to mention, when i brake sometimes the wheels are pulled to the left, which is the side where the wheel is forced back. wonder if this could be anything similar to the problem u had jaxo?

The wishbone is fairly easy to replace.

You have to undo the balljoint nut and punch the bolt out.

Then lever the balljOint away from the strut, being careful not to pull the driveshaft out as it'll leak fluid

undo the front wishbone bush and punt the bolt out

undo the rear wishbone bush, the two nuts are accessed from inside the footwell of the car, remove twonuts and the wishbone will come off.

Reverse to fit the new one. It is recommended to replace the balljoint bolt when you remove it (I havnt in the past and it's been fine)
