Heat Soak Question

  1. #1
I currently have a open pipercross filter that is it the back of the engine bay. i fitted bonnet raisers to try keep the bay cooler, would this prevent the heat soak as much to induction kit? cheers.

NO not much at all, enclosed or panel filter is the way to go. Open filters will probably be doing your engine more harm than good, especially at the back of the bay.

yeah not a fan of it but the car came like that, planned on getting a decent kit on it but with all the things i've had to fix i could of had a better cam on it by now

Doubt bonnet lifters will make difference tbh. As said, when you can, fit a decent enclosed system or better still, get a panel filter for the OE airbox!

Bonnet lifters are a con if sold for cooling gains.

The top of the bonnet is aerodynamically a high pressure zone which will stop hot air escaping from the top of the bonnet. The best bet is to get rid of the open filter and try to open up the front end

what exactly is heat soak? ive hed it mentiond a few times but dont understand?!?!?!?!!?!? can anybody explain it??????
  7. #7
Basically the filter soakin in ho air from the engine, manifold etc.

To avoid ehat soak you provide a good cold air feed.

hot air contains less oxygen creating less of a bang when it gets compressed in the engine. Less power

so an enclosed induction kit with a cold air feed will be better then??? i got a piperx venom with a cold air feed will this be any good????
  10. #10
or shield your filter from the heat in some way,
  11. #11
in theory it will be better than what you have at current but its still worse than using the standard airbox and an uprated panel filter

Theyre Foam filters IRC, just google different filter materials. IRC foam aint the best.

Green Cotton and K&N are regarded as the best along with jetex and a few other makes.

theyre not really good either although rather expensive, get the raceland off kamracing cant go wrong for the price, upgrade to the green filter when buying though

i got a piper x venom for £10 and a piperx viper for £20 so it cost me nuffin realy. does it matter how close to the front i mount it, or would up by the throttle bodie be ok with the cold air feed? and would it make a difference if i got another cold air feed and pointed it at the enclosure to keep it cooler???

as long as the cold air feed is good, then they should do there job just fine.

the filter isnt that big, think piper x do them, personaly i would use a catch tank as look better, can easily be made.

yeh but its cheaper to buy a breather at the mo just need to no the size. if anybody knows??? its a mk1 vts 99 t reg if that helps
  19. #19
catch tank on ebay around £40 and a brether filter is £5-6. i no what id go for at the mo

seen a few peeps make a pretty good catch tank using a red bull can, thats cheep.
however the filter connection is small enouth for the breathe pipe to go on, not sure on diameter.
