Brake problems, help required please

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

Got a major problem with my brakes. I think i've got a leaking CV joint so theres grease around my discs and pads but I doont think that is the problem.

Im putting my foot down hard on the brake pedal and theres nothing there really. I have just drove about 6 miles and went upto about 80mph thinking if it was just the grease, the heat would burn it off, but the discs are still cold enough to touch after the drive.

As any one experienced any master cylinder problems or servo unit problems before???

    Cheers, Dave

    p.s Its a 2000 (W) VTS

Theres grease on the brakes and youre wondering why theyre not working correctly?

Anyway, jack the car up, wheel off and get someone to hit the brakes, see if the caliper is actually working. If it is, then its the grease. If not, the lines are filled iwth air.

Dönt drive the car until you have the problem sorted
cv grease has a high melting point so wont burn off easily!
But due to the rpm it spins at it flings grease all over the place.
A worn master cylinder will normaly give you a good pedal if u pump it a couple of times!

i can supply you with new discs and pads

well when I first start the car, thers no brakes hardly at all, so thats what im thinking. they get slightly better once driving.

I no the grease wont help, but ive had cars before where the CV joint leaks grease on the pads and discs and under hard breaking the brakes still work better than mine are now and the grease would smoke like my wheel was on fire but its not doing that

Is the pedal going to the floor or is there still resistance in it?

SPARCO TOM how much for front set??

ive just had a quote from halfords on my trade card for £38 for the lot. im not after performance stuff at the mo, i just need the car to run safely. performance can wait until summer when ive got more funds

pedal as still got resistance init. just like normal. i no if the master cylinder was fucked it would go to floor. if its not the grease it could be the servo, but the power steering is ok.

    ok mate please do
  12. #12
If there is a chance you have cv grease on the pads there is no point replacing them until the cv is sorted.
  13. #13
yeah I no mate, thats why I wanna get everything sorted before I do. Any one got any ideas or info on the possibility of the servo unit been buggered??
  14. #14
That would just make the braking effort hard as fuck.

right then, I think the best course of action is to get the gator sorted on the CV joint and clean all my brake unit. if its still shit, get some one to nick my car and claim on the insurance lol. no seriously, then investigate the master cylinder
