Hello guys a bit of a random one this but i have a mate who has just bought a vtr with a slipped cambelt and he has been offered a 1.4 westcoast engine on a low mileage for a very reasonable price. he is not bothered about speed/performance, just a car to get him to work and back and general running around... the question is, do the ecu's match up and the loom as well? had a quick look on the search but couldn't find anything.. if any of you could help it would be much appreciated

#2need the ecu for the enigne and the loom, vtr engines are pennies would be seriousely backward and much more fuck on to downgrade
-
#3he could get a vtr engine for between 50-100 which would be soo much easier and make more sense
-
#4thats what i thought mate.. cheers for the quick reply anyway
il have to try and get him to dig a little deeper into his pockets lol
-
#5vtr engines are cheap as fuck these days can get a bare one for sub £100 easy would a be a straight old engine out new engine in 1/2 day job then
-
#6check flee bay and local scrappies can get decent lieage for 50 quid, or even still get yourselves a haynes and a spare head(just as common) and get some learning in, be good for you
-
#7im a mechanic anyway mate so replacing a head is no problem, iv done many saxo vtr/vts conversions before just looking for the easiest and quickest way to do it and the lad who wants it done has a young family so is trying to watch the pennys lol. the 1.4 hes been offered is only 40quid and done 57,000 miles, just had a rear ender... so thought i would ask the question before he turned it down
-
#8well in that case take the engine loom and ecu, dont forget to unlock the ecu so it can be fitted
-
#9unlock is first on the list, bad experiences with locking saxo ecu's in the past lol
-
#10good man well for the miles and price 1.4 wont be such a bad option
-
#11sureley a mechanic would know a 1.4 is completley diff engine to a 1.6 hence needing a diff ecu? if not id be scared for you to work on my car, but as said take the loom ecu and engine although im sure you could get a vtr lump for £40 if you lookedQuote:im a mechanic anyway mate so replacing a head is no problem, iv done many saxo vtr/vts conversions before just looking for the easiest and quickest way to do it and the lad who wants it done has a young family so is trying to watch the pennys lol. the 1.4 hes been offered is only 40quid and done 57,000 miles, just had a rear ender... so thought i would ask the question before he turned it down

#12i know they are different lol.. i only asked the question as they are similar engines and i wasnt 100%.. always better to ask if your not sure.. and now i knowQuote:sureley a mechanic would know a 1.4 is completley diff engine to a 1.6 hence needing a diff ecu? if not id be scared for you to work on my car, but as said take the loom ecu and engine although im sure you could get a vtr lump for £40 if you looked

#13why would u put a 1.4 in a 1.6, thats riddiculous
-
#14well not everyone is power hunting. This guys is looking for cheap, reliable run around for him and his young family. There is nothing wrong in that
-
#15makes sense to me as a family man myself but in the amount of work thats reqiuered wouldn't it be easier to get a vtr lump as it will work out cheaper in the long run and be far less hastle mate
-
#16TBH there really isnt any more hassle in fitting a 1.4 than a 1.6
