Putting VTS Lump in S2 Rallye..

  1. #1
Well guys i've found a vts engine that is local..

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tchlink:top:en

Just wondered how awkward it would be to fit this into the Rallye, I know very little about looms and ECU's but i do know that the Rallye has a dastek so its unlocked and its single plug so the vts engine should just plug straight in correct? Also it comes with a vts gearbox for £250 which seems very good for engine and gearbox correct me if i'm wrong, The question is should i do it ? The Rallye is an 8v 103bhp standard with Piper 270 cam, Still don't think it will have the power a standard vts engine would have so could be an idea. Help!

Should be able to get a JP4 for much less than that.

True enough yeah, Unconfirmed mileage etc. Shame there's no JP4's local.

I believe Thecherry on this forum knows a good supplier of dirt cheap JP4's. Time to make best friends with someone who has a van.

Oh really? Well the courier guy has recently been very generous to my postage prices so maybe i will ask him how much he would charge to pick up an engine for me? Pm me about JP4 prices if you wish.

Thats just a sensor from what looks like the throttle body mate

Just thought i would bump this as still considering it as the 8v is a dog for reliability.. Looking at a JP4 engine now, Just wondered as i'd imagine they are three plug and the Rallye is a single plug? But the rallye has a dastek ecu so would it be a lot of hassle ? Help please cheers.

jo4 is not as simple unless you have a vts to picnh ancillaries from as all sensors have different fittings ,cam belt covers dif ,inlet manifold dif ,sump is alluminimum ,so ex maniflds will not fit .
I can supplyyou a cable operated t/body and adaptor plate for the jp4 inlet manifold ,which is bigger than std vts anyway
I have one sitting if you want one ,s/w scotland .
people will tel you to fit vts cmas etc ,but what they forget is the std jp3 makes 100 bhp at5800 rpm the saxo vts makes its 120 at 6800 ,that means the jp4 will pull alot better at lower rpm . the vts makes less bhp at 5800 then the jp4 does .
it also means your vtr gear raitos will work well with the std jp4
so i would always suggest you leave engine as std till after you have tried it --you will besuprised how well the go even with no mods

Jp4 = low millage but bit of an arse to fit with inlets ect but has been done enough times now to find people with experiance on fitting

J4 = cheaper, plus has been put into countles rallye's loads of help out there with this

in standard for the Jp4 is slightly better on performance, but if you ever decide to modify from what i understand there is little point using the jp4 as the j4 is just as capable.

think you will need a gti loom for it to work. ive got one you can have for free if my dad didnt throw it away.

Just get on the Rallye register theres a whole forum dedicated to 16v conversions for Rallye's!! explains most things, asfar as looms go, there is a lad on there that you send both looms to so 16v and 8v he will splice you a new one out of the two and lable it up for around £90 my friend used him top job, but that was an s1 16v..... common question on owners here and RR though tbf and plenty of answers

    LOL @ That ebay ad.

That's a pre 1999 engine as it has no prongs & single plug ecu, as if a 1997/1998 engine has 53k? 12/13 years of thrashing. Average mileage would be 120-140k for that age too...

Buy a tidy 106 GTi engine and get someone with the right knowledge to fit it.
