Creaking doing my head in

  1. #1
Right then basically for sometime now my car has devoleped a strange creaking noise form the front end when turning lock to lock (i know you will all be thinking i should have done a search and it's probably his strut top mounts!) well it isn't and thats why i posted. At first i thought the noise was from the steering rack as there was a lot of movement in it, so i changed that and it was no better, my car was in for MOT yesterday and i got the tester to check underneath for any noises whilst i sat in the car turning lock to lock he pin pointed the noise to be coming from the anti roll bar so i took the brackets off and turned lock to lock the noise was still there but very faint yet as soon as i put the brackets back on the noise is loud again i put plenty of copper grease back on the bushes as well to try and cure it but no! its really annoying me. I've put new bushes in not so long ago but the noise was there before that, the noise has basically been there since i lowered the car. If anyone has any suggestions for me they would be greatly appreciated as it has got my head done in. It doesn't affect the way the car drives in any way just the noise

sorry for the essay but i really want to get it sorted

    have you checked you wishbones?

Does it do it while going round corners?

When my driveshaft was on its way out it done that

the obvious to check is wishbones, drop links, and top mounts mate.

Could be the ball joint, drop links, cv joint.
I can supply you with all of them at bargain prices

It could be your strut tops.

I presume that by removing the antiroll bar clamps you got rid of the upward force that the unds of it have against the strut

Are you sure you can't pinpoint the noise better, shouldn't be hard to do with the wheels off the ground

It's a noise i've never heard on another 106 or saxo, the strut tops where changed as i thought it was them as it only makes the noise when there is weight on the wheels. I've been told to check the rear bushes on the lower arms, check that the bolts are tight which go through the floor, balljoints are good. I've got a set of droplinks i'm gonna put on at the weekend see if it makes any difference

    cheers for the ideas lads

thanks for all your help guys! i went to change the drop links today and the drivers one was slightly buckled. so i slackened the anti roll bar off as it was too far up if you know what i mean so basically looked like the drop link was too long. so took both droplinks off, fitted new and tightened and then tightened anti roll bar brackets back up. the noise now appears to have gone so i'm well chuffed!!

cheers for the help guys its much appreciated!
